Woodware Blog Hop!

This week we’re going to celebrate with the awesome Woodware Design Team and the Dreamweaver Stencils Dream Team all of the the great Stampendous and Dreamweaver Stencils products that Woodware makes available to the UK market. This is good news for our crafty friends in the UK because we’ll be offering prizes and our UK friends are eligible to win!! We’ll be offering three prizes in the UK and three in the US. Each prize package will consist of Nathalie Kalbach’s terrific Grunge Mixed Media Cling Rubber Stamp Sets and the beautiful Zen Butterfly Dreamweaver Stencil! Both products are ideal for adding texture and backgrounds to your projects!

Here is what I have for you today:

 

This project is a little different with regards to texture.  Of course, you see the texture in the card stock, and the texture of the metal, but this project is a little more about implied texture, or the two dimensional rendering of texture.  Let me show you what I mean.

First, I placed the Dreamweaver Sailing Boat Stencil LG763 on a piece of heavy card stock.  I used a pencil to lightly trace the image.  Then, I used watercolor pencils and a little water to create the foggy sky background.  I used Micron Markers to trace and embellish the outlines of the ship.  I added a little more color with the watercolor pencils and created that implied texture.  



The mermaid was one of my favorite Stampendous images, the mermaid.  I sanded some white polyshrink and stamped the image with solvent ink.  Next, I cut around the around the shape and punched a hole in the top of the plastic.  I colored it with colored pencils and shrank it with my heat tool.  The plastic reminded me a little of scrimshaw, which is why I used it with the boat image.

 



Finally, the word was created by running the Imagine, Inspire, Believe Stencil LL 405 through my Cuttlebug with sky blue aluminum.  The "sandwich" was the A Plate, the stencil face up, the metal face up, the Dreamweaver Extra Large Rubber Mat and two B Plates.  I then sanded the image with the stencil still in place behind it.

Here is my take on the theme TEXTURE for today:

 





 

For this project, I used LJ 841 Fleur De Lis Stencil,  LG 760 Feather and LS 1001 Merci Stencil.  I simply used a stencil brush to add blue ink through the Fleur De Lis Stencil on light blue card stock.  The Merci Stencil and the Feather Stencil were run through my Cuttlebug die cut machine with brown latte aluminum.  I placed the stencil on the A Plate and covered it with the metal, the Dreamweaver Extra Large Rubber Mat, and two B Plates.  The difference in the look is how the stencil and metal are placed on the A Plate.  The Merci Stencil was placed face down with the metal also placed face down.  The feather stencil and the metal were both placed up.  The additional texture on the feather was created by using an embossing tool on the back of the metal.  All the metal was sanded to enhance the texture.  The ribbon is from May Arts.

Christmas in August Blog Hop with Woodware--The Final Day

Yes! It's that time of year again! The time when we inspire crafters on both sides of the "pond" with a mix of both Dreamweaver and Woodware UK* products for the holidays! Six days, SIX, of beautiful, elegant, merry, cute, artsy, and craftsy projects to have you heading out to your local stores or internet sites to buy these goodies immediately!

Of course, there will be prizes as well. Three prize packages will be given to three commenters during this week's posts on the team's blogs, including five stencils and one nested die set. You can have an opportunity to win these goodies by leaving some holiday sweetness for each team member posting each day, to be one of the three winners for the week. Here's my creation: 

 

First, I stamped with a beautiful Woodware stamp on white card stock with Jet Black Archival Ink.  Then, I ran a couple of stencils through my manual die cut machine with the Rubber Embossing Mat.  I ran the Dreamweaver Stencil LX 7002 Plaid through with red velvet paper.  The Dreamweaver Stencil LL557 Long Merry Christmas was used with Red Coated Aluminum.  I put the aluminum red side up over the stencil, which was also right side up.  I enhanced the "debossing" with the Teflon Tool from the Beginner Metal Tool Set.  I used a Qtip with Color Solutions Alcohol Ink Thinner to remove the red in the holly leaves.  I then used a little Color Solutions in Pine Bough to add green to  the leaves.  Finally, a sanding block removed all the color I did not want.  I did all of these steps with the stencil still behind the metal. 

 

The image was colored with Crayola Crayons.  The card was assembled using regular adhesive, Double Stick Mounting Paper behind the metal, 3D Dots and a lovely May Arts Ribbon.

Here's my creation: (or shall I say creations)

 

 

 

This is one stamp, two stencils, two Memory Mist Sprays, two Archival Inks, Stickles and crayons four ways..........

 

The stamp is from Woodware.

 

The stencils are Dreamweaver LJ 867 and LX 7002. 

 

 The tree is easy to see.  On the first one, I just sprayed through the opening.  On the second and last cards, I sprayed the stencil first and ran it through my die cut machine with the Rubber Embossing Mat.  It worked like a letterpress.  The third card used both of those techniques, first being run through the machine and then being sprayed through the opening.

 You say you can't see where I used the Plaid stencil?  Well, I embossed a piece of white velvet paper through the die cut machine with the stencil and the Rubber Embossing Mat and used it on the second and third cards. Here is a closer look:

 

I used the Memory Mists in Strawberry Daiquiri and Wheatgrass. The Archival Inks are Black and Olive.  I stamped the image first before making the letterpress effect.  The stickles are gold, silver, diamond, eucalyptus and mystery. The crayons added a little extra color here and there. 

 

So there you have it, one card four ways....

Christmas in August with Dreamweaver and Woodware!

Welcome to the annual Dreamweaver and Woodware Christmas in August extravaganza week! Monday through Saturday we will be knocking your Christmas stockings off with fun and inspirational ideas for the upcoming holidays. All that you need to do is hop back and forth across the "pond" on each day, oohing and aaahhhing as you go, and leaving us plenty of holiday love. In return, you'll be entered to randomly win one prize package for a UK commenter, and a second prize package for a US commenter, featuring products distributed in the UK by Woodware...including Dreamweaver and Stampendous!

Prize includes four stencils, one die, and two stamps, selection may vary.

Here's what I've created:

I hope you enjoy these cute little mice as much as I enjoyed creating them.  They are part of the House Mouse collection now from Stampendous. This one is called Hang on Tight. I stamped it with an archival ink, which I then heat set.  They were colored with Derwent Inktense water soluble ink pencils.  The background was created by running Black Coated Mercart Aluminum through my die cut machine with the Dreamweaver Rubber Mat and Snowflake Stencil LJ 819 (see embossing tutorial from Thursday).  It was sanded to reveal the snowflakes.  The Happy Holidays Stencil LM 139 was debossed with Red Coated Aluminum (again, see Thursday's post) and enhanced with the Mercart Teflon Tool before being sanded.

I used shrink plastic for the snowflakes.  First, I cut hexagons with my die cut machine, and then I sanded them.  I taped the sanded side to the back of the stencil.  The larger snowflakes were LL 399 Traditional Snowflake and LL 396 Gothic Snowflake.  The smaller snowflakes were from the Snowflake  Stencil LJ 819.  I used a stencil brush to apply black pigment ink on to the shrink plastic.  I punched a large hole in them and used my heat gun to shrink them.  They were attached with embroidery floss and accented with small rhinestones.

Christmas Hearts in August--Woodware Blog Hop Day Four

All of this week, the Dream Team and the Woodware UK teams are celebrating the release of the new holiday designs from Dreamweaver Stencils. Of course, no celebration is complete without prizes...and there are some fabulous ones for those commenting on both sides of the "pond".

Each team will be providing the opportunity to win four prize packages of stencil designs, perfect for the holidays. Just leave your comments each day on each players' post as well as the Dream It Up! and Woodware UK blogs, and the Dreamweaver and Woodware Facebook pages. Two random commentors will be chosen from the batch of weekday posts, one each from the DW and WW Facebook pages, and from the big hop on Saturday...from each side of the pond!* That's a total of eight prize packages up for grabs! My post today is very easy.  The Stencil does most of the work.  Here are the materials and directions:

MATERIALS

Dreamweaver Stencil LJ 921 Heart Ornaments

Double Sided Mounting Paper

Stampee Foil in Hot Pink

Stampee Foil in Garnet

Hand Embossing Tool

Handmade Coconut Soap

Large Stencil Brush

Art Glitter Microfine Opaque 516 Gold Tone

Art Glitter Microfine Opaque 508 Silver Moon

Art Glitter Microfine Opaque 519 Reed

Art Glitter Ultrafine Transparent 85 Crystal

Cardstock in brown and red

Ribbon

 

DIRECTIONS

1)  Soap the back of the stencil

2)  Brush off the excess soap fragments that are stuck to the insides of the stencil

3)  Remove the paper from one side of the Double Sided Mounting Paper and place stencil on it, soap side down on the adhesive.

4)  Start with the Hot Pink Stampee Foil.  Place dull side down on top of the hearts. 

5)  Rub gently with fingers in the center of the heart. 

6)  Remove foil and replace with the red foil, also dull side down.

7)  Rub around the edge of hearts with the embossing tool.

8)  Apply colored glitter as follows:  Place a little glitter on the stencil near the area that you want the color.  Gently shove into the holes with finger and rub down a little.  I used Microfine Glitter to get into all of the tiny areas.

9)  Brush off the excess glitter. 

10)  Place a little gold glitter over the stencil and rub into ALL the holes--including the heart area.

11) Brush off excess glitter.  Be thorough.

12)  Carefully remove the paper from the stencil by placing the stencil face down on a flat surface and pulling the paper off while "walking" your fingers across the stencil to keep it flat.

13)  Cover the entire paper with the Ultrafine Crystal and brush off excess.

14)  Remove the paper from the other side of the Double Sided Mounting Paper to adhere to cardstock mat.

15)  Assemble card.

 

It was simple, really.  This card took very little time and made a complete picture with only one stencil.  Give it a try yourself!
