Have a Mice Summer!

This week, with Memorial Day right around the corner, Stampendous is celebrating the mice of summer.  I have featured one of the "summeriest" House Mouse stamps I have seen. 


Here is how it was done:

MATERIALS:
HMR60 Shell Search
CRS5090 Cling Seashells
DCS5090 Seashells Die Set
SSC1246 Ocean Wisdom Perfectly Clear Stamp Set
Acrylic Handle
DCP1005 Fitted Frames A
White Mixed Media Paper
Heat Embossing Tool
Momento Tuxedo Black Ink
Versamark Ink
Sapphire Pearlustre Embossing Powder
Stazon Ink in Jet Black
Shrink Plastic
Sand Paper
Manual Die Cut Machine
Big Bite, or other strong hole punch
Prismacolor Pencils in French Gray 30% and 90% , Cool Gray 10%, 20%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90%, White, Blush Pink, Deco Pink, Pink Rose, Spring Green, Lime Peel, Olive, Marine Green, Yellow Chartreuse, Dark Umber, Light Umber,  Sepia, Burnt Ochre, Orange, Pumpkin Orange, Terra Cotta, Sand,  Jasmine, Canary Yellow, Goldenrod, Light Aqua and Deco Aqua.
Zip Dry
Foam Squares
My Colors Card Stock in Tropical Splash, Poolside and Spearmint
Corregated Kraft Card Stock
Raffia in Green and Natural
DIRECTIONS:
1)    Fold a piece of 12” by  6 ” card stock so that the fold is on the top.
2)    Stamp the Shell Search image onto the mixed media paper with the Momento Ink.
3)    Color the image with the pencils.
4)    Stamp the Sentiment with Versamark Ink and cover with the embossing powder.
5)    Tap off the excess powder and heat emboss with tool.
6)    Sand one side of the shrink plastic.
7)    Stamp the other side of the shrink plastic with the shell image and the Stazon Ink.
8)    Use the manual die cut machine and the fitted frames die to cut a pretty frame around the sentiment.
9)    Use the die cut machine and the shell die to cut around the stamped shell image.
10)                     Color the back of the shell image with colored pencils.  Be sure to color with the white to make the shell opaque.
11)                     Use the hole punch to create a large hole in the plastic shell.
12)                     Use the heat embossing tool to shrink the shell.  Be sure to do this on a non-stick heat proof surface.
13)                     Adhere the image to a poolside mat and then to the corregated board.
14)                     Adhere the board to the background.
15)                     Push the raffia through the hole in the shell.
16)                     Tie raffia ribbon in place.
17)                     Attach the sentiment to the tropical splash card stock. 
18)                     Attach the sentiment with the foam squares to raise it above the background.

Momento ReInkers in Sweet Plum, Summer Sky, Lilac Posies, Danube Blue, Rose Bud, Lulu Lavender and London Fog
Old Whipped Topping Container
Baking Soda
Salt
Small Pieces of Cardboard to fit into the bag
Non Stick Craft Sheet
Tape
Stencil Brush
Fabric Paint in White, Yellow and Green
Paper Towels
Regular Brush
Shrink Plastic
Sandpaper
Stazon Black Ink
Manual Die Cut Machine
Hole Punch
Prismacolor Pencils in White and Yellow
Heat Gun

INSTRUCTIONS:

1)  Rinse the bag under very hot water, using a little baking soda like soap-scrubbing it in and rinsing it out. 



2)  While it is still wet, place the bag into the whipped topping container.

3)  Squeeze the Momento ReInkers directly onto the bag, moving it around occasionally to find blank areas to color.


4)  Cover the bag with a little salt.


 5)  Fill the container with water until it covers the bag.



 6)  Cover the container and shake to agitate the dye.


 7)  Pour out the dye and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear.  Then, let the bag dry or throw in the dryer.


 8)  Place cardboard in the bag to create a flat surface.  Then, tape the stencil onto the bag.


 9)  Squeeze white fabric paint onto the craft sheet and tap stencil brush into it.


 10)  Tap the brush onto paper towel to remove the excess paint.


 11)  Rub the brush over the top of the stencil.  Repeat these last two steps until the entire stencil has been painted.


12)  Remove the stencil and let the paint dry.


 13)  Use the regular brush to paint over the stencilled image.  Then, let dry completely.


14)  Sand the shrink plastic.
15)  Stamp the shrink plastic with the daisy image and Stazon Ink.
16)  Run the stamped image through the die cut machine with the daisy die.
17)  Use the Prismacolors to color the image.
18)  Punch a hole in the image.
19)  Use your heat gun to shrink the daisy.  It will get all wrinkly, but just keep heating, and it will straighten out.

20)  Color the top of the daisy petals with the white pen.
21)  Use the needle and thread to sew on the beads and the daisy charms you created!

It's Picnic Time

Stampendous is having a picnic theme this week, so here is my response:

I decided to go with a picnic birthday theme.  I created all the dangling charms with Dreamweaver Stencils and shrink plastic.  First, I sanded the plastic, then traced the stencils with the Chameleon detail pen and colored them with various Chameleon alcohol inks.  I used my Big Bite to create the holes and then shrank the plastic with my heat gun.
The first picture is the LL3032 Lg Cherries.  I used the Chameleon Pens in Grass Green, Crimson Red, Spring Meadow, Bark, and Deep Black.


 The next picture was created with the LM193 Dragonfly stencil.  I used the colors Crimson Red, Grass Green, Sky Blue, Royal Blue and Deep Black.


 The final dangle was created with the LR502 Sun stencil.  It was colored with Summer Sun, Crimson Red, Warm Sunset and Deep Black.


After I made all the dangles, I attached everything with May Arts Ribbon.  That was it--and it was really fun!  After all, I got to play with shrink plastic.....it made me feel like I was 10 again.

Dreamweaver Howl-o-ween Post

Are you ready to be spooked, mystified and magically transported to the land of Halloween and holidays? Hop on board the Dream Team train as we journey through all things Mysterious and Magical through the month of October. Our guest "engineer" is Miss Eerie herself, Alison Heikkila. October promises to be a very bumpy ride...

 I just HAD to use this card.  I made it for CHA, but fell so in love with it, that I knew I wanted to tell you about it.

MATERIALS:
Dreamweaver Stencil LJ 816 Spider Web
Dreamweaver Stencil LJ 896 Large Flourish
Dreamweaver Stencil LG 749 Dog Words
Dreamweaver Stencil LL 525 Bats
Dreamweaver Die DL3029 Dog
Dreamweaver Die Tool DCT
Dreamweaver Palette Knife
Dreamweaver Black Glossy Embossing Paste
Stamping Details Rubber Embossing Mat
Stencil Brush
Removable Tape
Double Stick Mounting Paper
Mercart Metal in Copper, Red, Gold and Black
Manual Die Cut Machine
Card Stock in Black and White
Shrink Plastic
Big Bite
Circle Spellbinders Die
Black Pigment Ink
Scissors
Sandpaper
Heat Gun
Patterned Paper
May Arts Ribbon
Embroidery Floss
Adhesive

DIRECTIONS:

1)  Emboss the white card stock with the Spider Web Die through the die cut machine with the Stamping Details Rubber mat.
2)  Leave the stencil in place and use the stencil brush to add a little color in some of the raised areas.  Remove the stencil.
3)  Place the Swirl Stencil on the background and use a stencil brush and pigment ink to add color.
4)  Attach the Double Stick Mounting Paper on the back of the metal you are planning on using.  Run it through the die cut machine with the dies.  You will need one gold moon from the circular die and the dog cut once in black and once in copper.  Also, cut one collar with red metal.
5)  Use the Dreamweaver die tool to dot the "whiskers" into place.
6)  Sand the metal to add further dimension.
7)  Remove the backings from the metals and adhere to black card stock with a little room between each piece.
8)  Cut around the metal dog, leaving a little black edge all the way around.
9)  Paste the Happy Howl-o-ween onto white card stock with black glossy paste.  You will need the palette knife and the removable tape for this part.
10)  Lightly sand the shrink plastic.
11)  Use the bat stencil and the stencil brush to add black pigment.
12)  Use the Big Bite to create the largest hole above the bats.
13)  Cut a little outside of the bats and around the outside of the hole.
14)  Heat and shrink the bats.
15)  Assemble the top of the card.
16)  Use the Big Bite to create small holes for attaching the bats.
17)  Attach the bats with the floss.

Christmas in August with Dreamweaver and Woodware!



Welcome to the annual Dreamweaver and Woodware Christmas in August extravaganza week! Monday through Saturday we will be knocking your Christmas stockings off with fun and inspirational ideas for the upcoming holidays. All that you need to do is hop back and forth across the "pond" on each day, oohing and aaahhhing as you go, and leaving us plenty of holiday love. Prize includes four stencils, one die, and two stamps, selection may vary.


Here's what I've created:
I hope you enjoy these cute little mice as much as I enjoyed creating them.  They are part of the House Mouse collection now from Stampendous. This one is called Hang on Tight. I stamped it with an archival ink, which I then heat set.  They were colored with Derwent Inktense water soluble ink pencils.  The background was created by running Black Coated Mercart Aluminum through my die cut machine with the Dreamweaver Rubber Mat and Snowflake Stencil LJ 819 (see embossing tutorial from Thursday).  It was sanded to reveal the snowflakes.  The Happy Holidays Stencil LM 139 was debossed with Red Coated Aluminum (again, see Thursday's post) and enhanced with the Mercart Teflon Tool before being sanded.

I used shrink plastic for the snowflakes.  First, I cut hexagons with my die cut machine, and then I sanded them.  I taped the sanded side to the back of the stencil.  The larger snowflakes were LL 399 Traditional Snowflake and LL 396 Gothic Snowflake.  The smaller snowflakes were from the Snowflake  Stencil LJ 819.  I used a stencil brush to apply black pigment ink on to the shrink plastic.  I punched a large hole in them and used my heat gun to shrink them.  They were attached with embroidery floss and accented with small rhinestones.

Stampendous and Dreamweaver Summer Fun Blog Hop: Day Five
