Happy Birthday, Laura! A Pretty Bearded Iris Card.

Today is a VERY special birthday!  Laura Weed, our fearless leader, is celebrating another year on this planet.  In celebration, her team is having a Birthday Blog Hop!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!


Here is how I created this birthday card:

Materials:
DWLL516 Bearded Iris Stencil
Glossy White Embossing Paste
Paste Spreader
Dreamweaver Palette Knife
Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Core'dinations Card Stock
Small Glue Dots
Amplify in Electric Yellow
Spectrum Markers in LV2, LV3, CG1, CG2 and DG3
Scotch by 3M 1/2" Adhesive
May Arts Ribbon
Removable Tape
Embossing Heat Gun
Paper Trimmer

Instructions:

  1. Cut the base card stock 8 1/2" by 5 1/2" and fold on the side.
  2. Tape the Bearded Iris Stencil over green card stock with removable tape.  Use a tape strip all the way across the top of the stencil that will act as a hinge later.  Then tape both of the sides and bottom.
  3. Use the palette knife to remove the Glossy White Embossing Paste from the container and place on the paste spreader.  Place a strip of paste on the spreader that is as wide as the Iris image.
  4. Set the paste spreader on the stop of the stencil and pull it towards you, maintaining contact with the stencil, and filling in all the wells.
  5. Carefully remove the tape from the bottom and sides of the stencil.
  6. Using the top tape as a hinge, lift the bottom of the stencil carefully up and then away from the project.  Let dry completely.
  7. Color the Iris image with the Spectrum Markers.
  8. Squeeze the Amplify onto the iris to create the "beards" and heat with the embossing gun until it puffs up.
  9. Assemble the card, using a Glue Dot to adhere the knot in the May Arts ribbon.

Celebrate The Season with an Ornate Tree

The Stampendous theme this week is "Celebrate the Season".  I am combining it with "Dreamweaver Thursday" by presenting this tree.  It is easier to create than you might think.



Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Scotch Removable Tape
Scotch 1/2" Adhesive Tape
Chameleon Pens in Grass Green, Hot Cocoa, Crimson Red, Sunshine Yellow, Spring Meadow, Warm Sunset

Instructions:


  1. Cut card base to 7" by 10 1/4" and fold at the side.
  2. Cut blue card stock to 7" by 5 1/8" and adhere to the front of the card.
  3. Cut blue card stock to the size of the Ornate Christmas Tree Stencil.
  4. Tape the stencil over the top of the card stock using removable tape.  Be sure to use one large piece over the top edge of the stencil.  It will act as a hinge.
  5. Use the palette knife to remove Pearlescent Embossing Paste from the jar and lay a strip above the stencil.  Make sure you have a long enough strip to cover the entire width of the Christmas tree.
  6. Place the bottom edge of the paste spreader above the strip of paste and pull towards you.  The paste should completely fill in the wells of the Ornate Christmas Tree Stencil.
  7. Carefully remove the tape from the sides and the bottom of the stencil, leaving the tape on the top.
  8. Lift the stencil from the bottom corner like a door and then remove it entirely from the area. Let the paste dry.
  9. After the paste has dried, use the Chameleon Pens to color directly on it.
  10. Cut the card stock with the Christmas tree image to the size you prefer.
  11. Place Sticky Panels all the way around the inside of the front of the card.  Leave a slight border.
  12. Center the Christmas tree image on the card and adhere--using both your favorite adhesive and the inside of the Sticky Panels strips

A Stamp. a Stencil and a Snowman.

Do you want to build a snowman?  Although it seems a little early to me, that is the theme this week for the Stampendous Team.  Of course, as a Dreamweaver ambassador of sorts, I had to add in a little stencil work.  (Very EASY stencil work).  This is what I came up with:

Here is what I used:

Plus:
Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Scotch® 1/2" Adhesive Tape by 3M®
Scotch® Removable Tape by 3M®
Chameleon™ Markers (Purple Grape, Crimson Red, Grass Green, Spring Meadow, Sunshine Yellow,  Seville Orange, Black, Bark)
Craft Knife
Sharp Scissors
Ribbon by May Arts
Foam Tape
Heat Embossing Tool
Paper Towel

Instructions:

  1. Cut the base card stock to 6 3/4" x 9" and fold on the side.
  2. Stamp the Whispered Wishes image on Multi Media Paper with Memento Ink.
  3. Cut out the wishes sentiment with sharp scissors or a punch (if you have one).
  4. Adhere the wishes sentiment onto burgundy card stock and cut the mat with scissors or a punch.
  5. Color the rest of the image with Chameleon Pens.
  6. Use the Versa Marker to mark areas that you would like to add more white to.
  7. Sprinkle the White Pearls Embossing Powder over the marked areas and shake off the excess.
  8. Use your Heat Tool to emboss the powder.
  9. Cut around the snowman image with sharp scissors and a craft knife. 
  10. Place the stencil face up on the dark blue card stock and tape down the edges with the removable tape.
  11. Tap your stencil brush in the Versa Mark Ink and tap off the excess on a paper towel.
  12. Rub the ink into the wells of the stencil in a circular motion.
  13. Remove the stencil.
  14. Cover the stencilled card stock with the 3D Embossing Powder and tap off the excess.
  15. Use your Heat Tool to emboss the powder.
  16. Mount the snowman to the blue snowflake paper with the 3D Foam Tape.
  17. Tie the May Arts ribbons around the bottom of the card.
  18. Adhere the card to the background.

Chameleon™ Markers (Crimson Red, Warm Sunset, Grass Green, Spring Meadow, Bisque, Cool Gray, Summer Sun, Aqua Marine, Bubble Gum)
Sharp Scissors
Paper Trimmer
Zig 2-Way Glue Pen by Kuretake®
5" Machine and Adhesive by Xyron®
Scotch® 1/2" Adhesive Tape by 3M® 

Instructions:

  1. Cut the card base to 5 1/4" by 9 1/4" and fold on top.
  2. Cut the teal card stock to 5 1/4" by 4 5/8" and adhere to the front of the card base.
  3. Stamp your choice of words from the Joyful Phrases on the Mixed Media Paper.  I placed a couple of phrases on the stamping block at a time, and randomly stamped them across the paper, not concerned with overlapping and running off the page.  Use the Bamboo VersaMagic for this.
  4. Trim the stamped image to the size you want.
  5. Use the Bamboo VersaMagic to distress the edges of the card stock
  6. Create a slightly larger rectangle from burgundy card stock and adhere the Joyful Phrase image to it.
  7. Adhere the burgundy rectangle to the teal card stock on the base.
  8. Stamp the Joyful Noise Image with Memento Tuxedo Black on the Mixed Media Paper.
  9. Color the Joyful Noise image with the Chameleon Markers.
  10. Trim closely around the Joyful Noise image.
  11. Run the Joyful Noise image through the Xyron Machine and attach to the Joyful Phrases layer.  Overlap a little of the holly on the mats.
  12. Use the glue pen to attach clear glitter over the coloring on the mouse wings and gold micro glitter to his halo.

Although tomorrow, I promise much more coloring with these fantastic markers, I just wanted to point out one thing:  Chameleon Pens COLOR ON EMBOSSING PASTE (and when they color on metallic paste, they make a beautiful, shiny effect).
Materials:

Scotch® Removable Tape by 3M®
Scotch® 1/2" Adhesive Tape by 3M®
"X" Adhesive by Xyron®
Chameleon™ Markers (Grass Green)
Time Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink by Ranger®
Distress Inking Tool
Foam Tape
Craft Knife

Instructions:

  1. Cut the card stock to 9 1/2" by 6"and create a fold on the top.
  2. Cut green card stock to 4 3/4" by 6" and adhere to the front of the card.
  3. Use removable tape to adhere the French Horn Stencil face up on top of a piece of multi media paper.  Make sure to put the initial strip of tape all the way across the top of the stencil, creating a hinge.
  4. Use the palette knife to place a strip of Gold Embossing Paste across the bottom edge of the paste spreader.  Make sure you have a long enough strip of paste to cover the entirety of the image from side to side.
  5. Place the bottom edge of the paste spreader directly on the top edge of the stencil with the paste facing you.
  6. Pull the paste spreader towards you across the stencil.  (Think of a squeegee).  The embossing paste should completely fill all the wells in the stencil.
  7. Carefully remove the tape from the sides and bottom of the stencil, leaving the hinge on top.
  8. Lift the stencil from a bottom corner, like a door and then remove it entirely from the area.
  9. Clean and thoroughly dry the stencil.
  10. Repeat steps 3-9, but use the Translucent Embossing Paste.  Focus only on the ribbon in the image, so you can cut the paper smaller, use less paste, and start the "pull" just above the bow.
  11. While the Translucent Paste is still wet, generously cover with Red Micro Glitter and let the glitter stay in place.
  12. When the Translucent Paste is completely dry, brush off the excess glitter with a stencil brush and cut around the ribbon and bow with a craft knife.
  13. Use the Chameleon Pen in Grass Green to color the holly leaves directly on the dry gold paste.
  14. Stamp the music image on ivory card stock and rip in half.
  15. Distress the edge of the music sheets with the Distress Blender and Ink.
  16. Run Sticky Panels around the edges of a rectangle about 1/4" inside the green card stock.
  17. Place music sheets on the Sticky Panels, adhering the inside of the sheets with another adhesive.
  18. Fill in the additional Sticky Panel edges with Mica Fragments.
  19. Use the Versa Marker to cover any additional areas that you would like gilded.
  20. Cover the Sticky Panel and Versa Marker areas with Aged Gold Embossing Powder and shake off the excess.
  21. Heat with the Embossing Tool to melt the powder.
  22. Trim closely to the French Horn image and distress with Distress Tool and Ink.
  23. Cut red card stock about 1/2" larger than the horn image on both sides.
  24. Mount the French Horn to the red card stock.
  25. Run the cut out ribbon image through the Xyron "X" machine and adhere directly to the corresponding places on the French Horn image.
  26. Use the foam tape to adhere the horn image onto the background.

It's Picnic Time

Stampendous is having a picnic theme this week, so here is my response:

I decided to go with a picnic birthday theme.  I created all the dangling charms with Dreamweaver Stencils and shrink plastic.  First, I sanded the plastic, then traced the stencils with the Chameleon detail pen and colored them with various Chameleon alcohol inks.  I used my Big Bite to create the holes and then shrank the plastic with my heat gun.
The first picture is the LL3032 Lg Cherries.  I used the Chameleon Pens in Grass Green, Crimson Red, Spring Meadow, Bark, and Deep Black.


 The next picture was created with the LM193 Dragonfly stencil.  I used the colors Crimson Red, Grass Green, Sky Blue, Royal Blue and Deep Black.


 The final dangle was created with the LR502 Sun stencil.  It was colored with Summer Sun, Crimson Red, Warm Sunset and Deep Black.


After I made all the dangles, I attached everything with May Arts Ribbon.  That was it--and it was really fun!  After all, I got to play with shrink plastic.....it made me feel like I was 10 again.

Dreamweaver and Stampendous Patriotic Week

My new team, Stampendous, is having a patriotic theme this week.  Of course, where else would my thoughts turn, but to the Dreamweaver Flag Stencil LL359 ?  The biggest challenge was to find a new way to use it.
Here is what I did:  I pasted LL 359, using Glossy White Embossing Paste on white card stock.  Because it was a narrow stencil, I was able to use the regular palette knife.  Once the paste was dry, I replaced the stencil and daubed on Versamark using a small finger dauber.  I poured on some Stamp N Bond and heated it.  While it was still warm, I pressed some foil into it.  I actually used some foil from an Easter Egg decorating kit on this, but I am sure that any of the heat and pressure activated foil out there right now would work.  WARNING:  You do need to work in small batches on this, or the glue will not remain hot enough to adhere the foil when it is pressed down.  Despite my best efforts, the foil still looked reticulated and patchy.  I was thinking afterward that it may have been a better choice to use a stencil brush to add the Versamark.  That way, it may have created a smoother surface for the foil.  I did not give up , however, and added a second coat to the empty parts.  Then, because it still wasn't covered in foil, I used my Chameleon markers to fill in any remaining white sections.  I then used Regular Embossing Paste to paste on the stars.  The surface was bumpy, so the stars did not turn out perfect.  I decided to be okay with that.
For the background, I used the Dreamweaver Fireworks Embossing Folder FJ886 on some navy color core paper.  I then lightly sanded the paper.  I placed the coordinating Fireworks Stencil LJ886 over the top and used the small dauber to add Versamark to the embossed areas.  I then covered the ink with Gold Tinsel and Silver Tinsel Embossing Powder.  Of course, when I was done, I heated up the embossing powder.

The oval was cut with a nested die and the Cuttlebug Machine.  I stamped the Thank You from the Happy Greetings Perfectly Clear Stamp Set with Majestic Blue Versacolor.  I used Versamark on the edges with Gold Tinsel Embossing Powder.  I punched a couple of holes in it.
Finally, I cut around the flag, added some May Arts ribbons, foam tape, and card stock and I was finished!

April Showers........um....or maybe May Flowers

Yes, the theme for this month is actually April Showers, but I have gone a little off on my own to change it up a little to May Flowers--and there is a reason for this that I will explain soon.

In the meantime, I would just like to remind you that the real theme for the month is "Shower of Showers", and if you would like to play along, you have the chance to win the stencil of your choice by linking to the Dream It Up! blog.  You have an extra chance to win if you incorporate Dreamweaver and/or Stampendous products in your design.

 Now, back to my creation:


       This is the time of year of many transitions.  April is turning into May and showers will soon be replaced by flowers.  As spring finally begins here in Michigan, my life is changing, too. As many of you might know, Lynell Harlow has recently sold Dreamweaver Stencils to Stampendous.  This should mean wonderful things for Lynell's fabulous stencil designs!  Therefore, this is my last official post as a member of the Dreamweaver Design Team.  Dreamweaver has become part of the Stampendous family and I, too, have been welcomed into an exciting new position as a member of the Stampendous team.  (See the new decoration on my sidebar!)  
     Of course, all of these changes, while quite exciting, have me waxing nostalgic.  I was one of the original members of the Dreamweaver Design team.  It was the first (non store) design team that I was ever part of.  As new team, it went through quite a few changes as it developed.  So did I.  I made many friends on the team over the years, including the beautiful (inside and out) Lynell Harlow.  I had a great time doing demos at CHA and teaching classes in the stores.  I also had the unforgettable opportunity to demo in the UK.  Of course, there were the gorgeous stencils! 

      This brings me back to my post.  It is a Thank You to Lynell, who is such a wonderful person and artist.  I met her several years before I really got to know her, when I was taking a Dreamweaver Class at a local store.  One of the stencils we used in the class was LJ 888 Hydrangea.  I remember thinking that Lynell really liked this one.  Every time I used it afterwards, I would remember how much she liked it.  Here, I pasted it on blue card stock with White Glossy Embossing Paste.  I used Removable Tape and the LM 2010 Paste Spreader.  I also pasted the LS 1009 Thank You with the same paste.  When the paste was dry, I used my Chameleon Markers to color in the flower and leaves.  For the flowers, I used YL2 Summer Sun and V04 Deep Violet.  For the leaves, I used YG3 Spring Meadows, OL3 Olive Green and GR3 Grass Green.  Mostly, though, I used the CB Colorless Blender.  I colored in the darker sections, and then used the blender to transfer the colors to the lighter sections.  For the leaves, I colored them normally and then used the blender to blend and lighten the colors.  The White Paste gave me a wonderful canvas to work on.


     As a group, we have been encouraging each other to also post one of the first creations we made for the Dreamweaver Team.  Mine goes way, way back.  In fact, it was one of the items I used for my design team audition.   (I also used some Stampendous flock on it!)  Sorry about the picture. 


     While the words "Thank You" cannot fully express my gratitude for everything Lynell has done for me, I certainly hope that she understands.  I urge you to continue to follow the Dream It Up blog, Stampendous and, of course, me, to see all the exciting new things that will be happening with Dreamweaver Stencils!
