Stampendous and Dreamweaver Summer Fun Blog Hop: Day Five

Placecards and a Mini Gratitude Album

Here I have a dual project--a set of Thanksgiving placecards and a Mini Gratitude Album.  Here are the placecards, and there will be an image and a link to where you can find the album at the end of the post.

MATERIALS:
Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear with Fine Metal Tip
Art Glitter Ultrafine Opaque 55 Hot Lava
Art Glitter Ultrafine Opaque 347 Golden Orange
Art Glitter Microfine Opaque 514 Bavarian Forest
Part of a Mat Stack (I used DCWV Autumn Melody)
White Cardstock
Manual Die Cut Machine
Placecard Die from Lifestyle Crafts
Oval Die from Lifestyle Crafts
Silhouette Machine with Pumpkin Pattern (any decorative pattern and die cut machine would work)
Decorative Die or Silhouette pattern for edging
Xyron Machine--any size
Archival Ink in Coffee Brown
Journalling (lined) stamp (mine was from Stampabilities)
Scissors
Repositional Adhesive (optional)

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Cut the required number of placecards out of white cardstock
2)  Cut ovals out of white--be sure and have a few extra
3)  Cut half of a placecard from enough prints of mat stack so that each placecard will have a print over half of it. Be sure and line this up so that the pattern will be vertical when applied to the placecard.  Also, cut one large enough piece that you have an extra circle.
4)  Cut extra circle from the placecard it is attached to.
5)  Put repositional adhesive on the back of the circle.  Open a placecard and glue circle over the center circle on the placecard.  If you are not using glue, just carefully position the circle.
6)  Use Archival Ink to stamp the lines over the inside of the placecard.
7)  Repeat steps 5 and 6 with all your placecards.

8)  Close the placecard.
9)  Glue the print half over the correct place on the white cards.
10)  Cut out the pumpkin and decorative edge patterns from white cardstock.  The decorative edge that I used was from Samantha Walker in the Silhouette Store and had scoring on the center line to make it easier to fold.
11)  Place decorative items face down into Xyron machine.
12)  Remove edging and cover with Golden Orange Glitter
13)  Remove pumkins and place stems before covering with Hot Lava Glitter.
14)  Use Designer Dries Clear to write names on ovals and cover with Bavarian Forest Microfine Glitter.  Microfine will retain the tiny details.  Push down just a little after it is applied to make sure that it is secure.  Let dry.
15)  Use Designer Dries Clear to add green to stems of pumpkins.  Let dry.
16)  Cut the decorative edging to fit the placecards and use Designer Dries Clear to attach it.
17)  Place pumpkins face up into Xyron.  Attach to circle.
18)  Use Designer Dries Clear to make an edging on the oval and the circle in Goldilocks.  Let dry.
19)  Attach oval in place.

The intent of these placecards is that the person will fill in what they are grateful for and at the end of the night, they are placed in a mini album where they can be read over and over.  A picture would be added to the other side.  Here is a photo of my mini album.

Art Glitter and Globecraft Love Charms Book

We are having a collaboration between Art Glitter and Globecraft Memories, and I am in a Halloween mood!  This time, I have a Love Charms book to share.

MATERIALS
Book (I used a spiral bound journal)
Enough crushed panne fabric to cover book, front and back
Foam packaging scrap large enough to cover book, if desired
8" by 10" Muslin Fabric

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Cut panne fabric about 1" larger than the book both vertically and horizontally.  You will be cutting one piece for the whole thing, so be sure to open the book and measure it all the way around before you cut.
2)  Cut foam packaging to fit over covers and spiral binding, if desired.  Apply with Designer Dries Clear.  I felt that I needed the foam to cover the spiral edge.  I would not recommend this step unless you have the same circumstances.
3)  Use the Embossing Fluid and the 24K Gold Powder to emboss the heart shape.
4)  Use Designer Dries Clear to adhere the heart shape to white cardstock.  Let dry.
5)  Use Glastique on the outer portion of the heart.  Fill with Vintage Glass Glitter.  Let dry.
6)  Use Cool-Set Enameling Gel in the center heart.  Let Dry.
7)  Cover the Vintage Glass with Glastique.  Let Dry.

8)  Iron the Clean Cut Fabric Interfacing on muslin.
9)  In Silhouette Studio Program, create the words and cut.  I used the font Bradley Gratis.  This step can be skipped if you have another way to cut out the muslin--either by hand or another machine.
10)  Set the cut out muslin in position on panne and iron on.
11)  Use your Art Glitter Fabric Adhesive to add the Goldtone Microfine Glitter to the words.  Set aside to dry.
12)  Use Microfine Silver Moon Glitter around the edges of words.  Let dry.
13)  Cut two straps from the cardstock.  They will wrap around the binding and onto the back.
14)  Using the Globecraft Embossing Fluid and your heat gun, emboss the straps, and all the remaining Globecraft Memories Elements EXCEPT the keys with Vintage Gold or Vintage Silver Embossing Powder.
15)  Emboss the keys with 24K Gold and Siam Silver Embossing Powder.  We switched the embossing powder because this one is more detailed, which suits the detailed keys better.
16)  Make sure that all the glue is dry before you proceed.  Send the leather through the Xyron Creatopia with the fabric adhesive.
17) Be very careful while removing from the background paper and covering the book.  Use the extra fabric to wrap under the edges.  Panne does stretch and can cling to itself.  If this happens, carefully pry it off of itself and carefully press on the book.  It will NOT be perfect.
18)  Use the Art Glitter Fabric Adhesive to attach all of the embossed pieces except the keys.
20)  Use Big Bite to create holes for brads. 
21)  Attach brads, leaving one just a little loose to attach the key.
22)  Use Cool-Set Enamel to cover the heart shaped brads.  Let dry.
23)  Use wire to attach the keys from a brad.
24)  Brush off any extra glitter with stencil brush and remove remnants with tape roller.
I realize that this project is a little intense, but it can be modified in any way that you like.  It is your book, so enjoy its creation.  I loved making it so much, that I have created a second one, pictured here.

Just One (Glittering) Bite.......

Too early for Halloween?  I sure hope not!  Honestly, this apple was inspired by Snow White.  I have been thinking about making something to honor that story for a long time.  Since I decided to make an elegant apple for the first day of school, which you can see here, I thought I would make and post this at the same time. 
Here are the simple instructions:
MATERIALS:
One Plastic Apple
Spray Adhesive
Assorted Gemstones.  I used purples, green, black and orange gems and light greenish pearls.
Silhouette Machine, or some other way to cut letters
Cardstock
Xyron X Machine with Permanent Adhesive
Art Institute Designer Dries Clear Glue
Ultrafine Metal Tip for Glue
Art Glitter Microfine 519 Reed
Art Glitter Microfine 507 Black Wing
Art Glitter Ultrafine Opaque 256 Purple Passion
Art Glitter Ultrafine Pearlescent 309 Canary
Art Glitter Ultrafine Opaque Neon 223 Fishnet

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Spray apple with adhesive
2)  Cover with Reed glitter.  I did not get mine perfect, which was fine, because it was a Halloween project.

3)  Cut out phrase from Cardstock.  I used my Silhouette, the Bradley Gratis font and the phrase "Just One Bite"
4)  Place the letters into the X upside down.  The adhesive will be on the top of the letters.
5)  Put letters into the Black Wing Glitter and press down hard.  Use the Designer Dries Clear to touch up any areas that you might have missed.  Let dry.
6)  Put letters face up into the X to get adhesive on the back.
7)  Make a "label" area on the apple where you might want the words and glitter with Canary.  Let dry.
8)  Adhere the letters in place.
9)  Adhere gemstones around the apple in no particular pattern. 
10) Starting with the top of the apple, surround some of the gemstones with Designer Dries Clear and the fine tip.  Expand the sections of glue until they look like drips.  This is freehand and should look a little messy.  Cover with Canary.  Let dry.
11)  Repeat step 10 a little further down, but use Purple Passion.  Also, use Purple Passion around the "label" section.  Let dry.
12)  Repeat step 10 a little further down with Fishnet.  Let dry.

 



13) Brush off any excess glitter.  You are done!

Connie Crystal Bookmark

For this Connie Crystal post, I have created a special bookmark.  This would make a great gift and was fairly easy to assemble.  Let me tell you how I did it.

First, I found a lovely embroidered trim and a coordinating grosgrain ribbon at Joann.  I purchased a quarter yard of each, but really only needed about 10" of the trim and about 11" of the red grosgrain.  Of course, the size you make depends on the length of bookmark that you want. 
I ran the red ribbon (because it was slightly narrower) through my Xyron 1.5" Create-A-Sticker with permanent adhesive in it.  I attached it to the green trim, leaving about 1/2" ribbon on the top and the bottom.  Then, I folded the extra up twice and attached it with a little Art Institute Fabric Dries Clear Glue to the bottom of the trim.  I carefully sewed the red down with Kreinik Metallics Balger Cable 002P Gold, trying to follow the zig zag type pattern that was on the sides of the trim.  When I say carefully, I mean that I did not go all the way through to the back of the bookmark with my stitching.  I came directly from the bottom of the bookmark (out of the folded area) and in right over the top of the red, just stitching through the green trim.

Next, it became time to attach the beautiful Connie Crystals.  I used the same Balger Cable and knotted it, hiding the knot inside the fold.  I then did the top row.  I strung the small green crystal from the green suncatcher, a long crystal, and another green crystal.  I ran a quick stitch through the folded red, and ran it through the opposite way, making a double thread through the beads.  I ran this through the red fold and began to make my spacers by using hemp macrame stitches.  They were all what I believe is called half hitches.  Basically, I ran a loop around the two threads and caught it with my needle before it closed, making a knot around the threads.  I ran three or four of these on each side of the green crystals to create the spacing.  The last rows were made the same way.  I added the red bead from the Connie Crystal red suncatcher and a small drop from the bottom of the Connie Crystal red suncatcher.  There were 8 stitches on either side of the red bead.  That was it.  It took very little time to create this lovely gift.  Keep in mind that you could create this bookmark in any length you like and not add any time.  While I used crystals on only one side, you could easily add them on both sides.  You could make a personalized bookmark to add to any very special book.  Give it a try.  I will warn you, it is addictve (and reasonably priced when you make it with Connie Crystals!).

I Made the Team!

 Here is my first post as a member of the newly formed Art Glitter Design Team!  I am so excited for a year full of glitter!  In this post, I am going to feature some easy ways to put glitter on a scrapbook page.  I used two different techniques and three different types of glitter here. 
The first technique was on the fire ring.  I used a glue stamp pad and some older See D's Rubber cling stamps.  Obviously, they were of flames.  I stamped on the yellow cardstock, and then poured glitter over the area and cut around the flames.  The glitters that I used were Ultrafine Transparent #93 Lemone, Ultrafine Pearlescent #179 Tang and Microfine Opaque #500 Ruby Red.  Here is a closer look.

 It has been raining up here in Michigan for a couple of days, so I wasn't able to get the beautiful photos that I was looking for to help explain the differences between the colors that I used.  The Lemone is transparent, so it is just a whisper of color on the yellow.  Transparent colors are light and clear and just give the color that you use as a base a subtle beauty.  Of course, using it on yellow made it even more subtle.  You can see it clearly on the shiney flame behind the red in the flash area.
Pearlescent colors are a little stronger on their own, but have a gorgeous pearl-like sheen.  You can, sadly, barely see the difference here, but in real life the Tang glitter adds a little more orange color to the yellow.  It gives more depth to the fire ring.  Look at the flame behind and beneath the red on the right of the picture.
Microfine glitter is really special. The red is an opaque, althought microfine glitter comes in transparent as well.  Opaque glitter completely covers the color of the background cardstock.   It is the bright red here.  I wanted one color to take center stage, and the red was it!  The other special thing about the Ruby Red is that it is Microfine.  If you look carefully at the pictures, it is the most crisp and detailed of the colors.  It appears so sharp is because the glitter is finely ground.   That also causes the glitter to float around a lot, so make sure that if you use it, you burnish it, or rub it in hard with your fingers.  Then, brush it off for a beautiful finish. 
Another color that you will find on the fire ring is the mixed color.  It is primarily the red mixed with the yellow.  This blending can best be accomplished by placing the ultrafine color down first.  Then, rub some of the microfine on the top.  Flecks of the microfine are actually so fine that they go in between the ultrafine glitter.  It creates a true blended look.
Well, on to the title.  I cut it with my Silhouette machine.  I used a font called Char, which I obtained online for free.  I had to ungroup it to remove some of the finer details.  Then, I made an offset shape for the "shadow".  I cut both shapes from yellow cardstock. 
So, here is the second simple tip:  run the title through your Xyron upside down.  That's right.  I set the main title upside down in my Xyron.  Then, I dipped it in my Microfine Opaque Ruby Red.  I rubbed it a little with my fingers and brushed it off.  I ran the backround upside down through the Xyron as well.  When I removed it, I first placed the red glittered title in it.  Then, I poured the Ultrafine Transparent Lemone on top of it.  Unlike the flames, which blended, you can see here that the title did NOT blend.  Why?  Well, the Microfine is so finely ground that it took ALL the available space on the title.  See how lush it looks?  When the Ultrafine is poured on top, there is nowhere for it to attach except for the shadow of the letter.
Well, hopefully you have read this all and learned a lot about glitters and adhesive tricks.  There are a lot more types of projects and materials that I am going to cover during this exciting year of glitter!
