Witch Legs--Wrapped Up in Costumes

Today's project is doing double duty--both as a 31 Days of Halloween post, and my answer to the "Wrapped up in Costumes" theme for Stampendous.  I used it for the theme because it reminded me of an adorable witch costume.

Here's how I did it:

MATERIALS:

Witch Boots Metal Stencil FMS4035
Palette Knife
Paste Spreader
Regular Embossing Paste
Embossing Powder in Violet Opaque, Clear Emerald, Clear Sparkle Lime and Silver Tinsel
Micro Glitter in Purple, Lime, and Orange
Pearl Tigerlily Glitter
Royal Purple Glass Glitter
Removable Tape
Versamarker Pen
My Colors Card Stock in Black, Harvest Orange, Grape Vine and White
Creative Impressions Ribbon 80263 3/8" Purple and Orange Gingham
White Glue
Zip Dry Glue
Manual Die Cut Machine
Embossing Heat Gun
Rubber Embossing Mat
Rhinestones

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) The card base is 8 1/2" by 5 1/2" folded on the side.
2)  Tape the stencil onto black card stock, using a full strip of tape across the top which will be used as a hinge later.  Be sure to tape all the way around.
3)  Remove paste from the container with the palette knife and place on the bottom of the paste spreader.
4)  Place the paste spreader on the top of the stencil, with the paste facing you.
5)  Pull the spreader towards you, keeping contact with the stencil and filling in the wells with the embossing paste.
6)  Replace the excess paste into the container.
7)  Carefully remove the tape from the sides and bottom of the stencil.
8)  Using the top piece of tape as a hinge, carefully remove the stencil and let the paste dry.
9)  When the paste is dry, use the Versamarker Pen to color in one section that you want embossed.
10)  Cover with the embossing powder, flick off the excess, and heat emboss.
11)  Repeat steps 9-10 until you have colored all the sections that you want embossed.
12)  Place glue in one section at a time and cover with glitter until the while image is finished.
13)  Trim the mats.
14)  Add ribbon.
15)  Assemble the card.

Thanks for stopping by.  Here are the links to the other posts for the day:

A Witchy Granite Cameo Card

Once again, I am taking part in the 31 Days of Halloween Event.  I just love October!  This event celebrates Halloween the entire month.  Here is my cameo witch card. It is one of my favorites from this catalog.  I find the cameo witch stencil a particularly brilliant design move by Stampendous.

I was able to achieve the granite look with a technique that I developed for this catalog.  The embossing was actually quite easy, and the coloring with pencils can be as simple or complicated as you like.  Here is how it was done:

MATERIALS

Framed Witch Stencil FMS4036
Mixed Media White Paper
Versafine in Smokey Gray
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Boardwalk
Prismacolor Pencils in Black, Grass Green, Apple Green, Olive Green, Dark Green, Imperial Violet, Periwinkle, Steel, Cool Grey in 10%, 20%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90%
My Colors Card Stock in Black Magic and Grapevine
Zip Dry Glue
Manual Die Cut Machine
Rubber Embossing Mat

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) The card base is 8 1/2" by 5 1/2" folded on the side.
2)  Tap the Versafine all over the back of the stencil.
3)  Spray the back of the stencil with the Glimmer Mist.
4)  While the stencil is still wet, place it face down on the bed of the die cut machine.  Cover it with the mixed media paper, the embossing mat and the cutting mat.
5)  Run the stencil through the die cut machine.  Let dry.
6)  Color the image with the Prismacolors.  Enhance the embossing by creating extra highlights and shadows with the pencil colors.
7)  Assemble the card with Zip Dry.

I hope you like this technique.  It creates not only a granite look, but also a cool aged look with different colors.
Thanks for stopping by the blog.  Stampendous is featuring a little more Halloween today at the STAMPENDOUS BLOG.

All About the Dead Theme Week Dreamweaver Spider Card

This week's Stampendous theme is All About the Dead.  While my post doesn't have a skull, skeleton, or anything else dead on it, I can assure you that if THIS were in my house, it would be dead in short order:

Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
May Arts Twine
Scotch Removable Tape
Scotch 1/2" Adhesive Tape
3D Foam Squares
White Glue if needed for rhinestone
Distress Ink in Weathered Wood by Ranger
Distress Ink Tool by Ranger
Embossing Heat Tool
Sharp Scissors
Paper Trimmer
Rhinestone
Paper Towel

Instructions:

  1. The base card stock is 5 3/4" by 9 1/4", folded on the top.
  2. Tape the Spider Web Stencil down on gray card stock using the removable tape.
  3. Tap the large stencil brush on the Versa Mark pad, and then on the paper towels to remove the excess ink.
  4. Use the stencil brush in a circular motion over the Spider Web Stencil to create the image with the watermark ink.
  5. Remove the stencil from the card stock.
  6. Generously pour the 3D White Glitter Embossing Powder over the spider web image and tap off the excess.
  7. Use your heat tool to emboss the web.  Do not be alarmed if the complete spider web image does not turn out perfectly.  It adds to the charm and distressed look.
  8. Stamp the Halloween Wish Image with Memento Ink on white card stock.
  9. Cut around the Halloween sentiment.
  10. Use the Distress Ink tool to apply Distress Ink to the edges of the words.
  11. Carefully tape the spider stencil in the location you like using the removable tape.
  12. Use the palette knife to apply the Embossing Paste.  You will need to put a little paste on the upper part of the stencil and use the back of the knife to pull it down from the top. (Imagine a squeegee).  It will not turn out perfect because it will be running over the 3D embossing powder on the web.
  13. While the paste is still wet, carefully apply the rhinestone.  You may want tweezers for this.  If it does not stick, use the white glue to adhere it to the spider body.
  14. As you allow the paste to dry, adhere the Halloween Wish sentiment to black card stock and then cut all the way around, a little ways away from the words.
  15. Cut purple card stock to fit the outside of the card.
  16. Cut a black inner mat.
  17. Adhere the gray background to the black mat.
  18. Wrap May Arts Twine around the card, adhering it in the back.
  19. Adhere the card to be card base.
  20. Use the 3D foam squares to place the sentiment on the card.
Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope you enjoyed the post.  Visit the rest of the Dreamweaver Blogs for today for a little more All About the Dead Fun!

It's All About the Dead Theme Week

This week, the Stampendous Team is All About the Dead!  Yes, it is Halloween Week, and we are getting creepy!  This project will also serve as a post for the Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween.

Materials:

Stampendous Skeleton Lady Rubber Stamp RS-R229
Mixed Media White Paper
Real Red Opaque Embossing Powder
Red Tinsel Embossing Powder
Aged Black Embossing Enamel
Versamark Pen
Stazon Black Ink
Crayola 24 Count Crayon
Black Chalk Paint
Red Rhinestones
Paint Brush
Paper Towels
Embossing Heat Gun
Black Card Stock

Directions:

1)  Stamp the Mixed Media Paper.
2)  Color the image with crayons.  Make sure to color the white sections.  Use a lot of pressure in the areas that you want to make more colorful and less pressure where you would like a more muted look.
3)  Paint over the entire piece with chalk paint and wipe off with a paper towel.
4)  Use the Versamark Pen on the edges and emboss with the Aged Black Embossing Enamel to "distress".
5)  Use the Versamark Pen to add a layer of Real Red Opaque Embossing Powder to create a bloody drip from the top.
6)  Use the Versamark Pen to add an additional layer of embossing powder--this time, using Red Tinsel Embossing Powder to make it appear a little shiny.
7)  Assemble the card.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my All About the Dead and 31 Days of Halloween post.  I hope you liked it!

Here is my post for today:
Materials:
Stazon Black Ink
Tombow Dual Marker #606
Water Brush
Prismacolor Pencils in Jasmine, White, Canary Yellow, Orange, Neon Orange, Pale Vermillion, Neon Green, and Marine Green
Core'dinations Card Stock
Black Embroidery Floss
Non Stick Craft Mat
Heat Gun
Scissors
Craft Knife

Directions:
1)  Stamp on the mixed media paper and let dry.
2)  Color the background using the Tombow Dual Markers and water brush.  Let dry.
3)  Color the pumpkin, moon and cat eyes with Prismacolor Pencils.
4)  Use the Craft Glue Dots to adhere to the orange card stock.

5)  Adhere Craft Glue Dots along the edge of the stamped image.  I found the easiest way to do this is to place the dispenser where you want the dot and wiggle it back and forth a couple of times before you remove it.
6)  Count the dots you laid down in step 5.  This is how many "spiders" you need.
7)  Cut a 12" piece of the embroidery floss and remove 2 strands of the 6.

8)  Lay the floss on the craft sheet and place Mini Glue Dots over the top of the floss at about 1/2" intervals, starting about 1/4" from the end.
9)  Cover the first Glue Dot with a good deal of Aged Black Embossing Enamel.

10)  Press the embossing enamel into the Glue Dot.  Brush the excess down to the second dot.  Repeat until all the dots are covered in powder.

11)  Heat emboss the powder on the Glue Dots.

12)  Cut the embroidery floss between the Glue Dots.
13)  Using the craft knife, remove the "spiders" from the craft sheet and place carefully in the centers of the Craft Glue Dots.

14)  Use the craft knife to seperate the thread "legs" and press them into position on the larger Glue Dots.

15)  Cover the Glue Dots with Lime Micro Glitter, press in gently and brush off the excess.

16)  Use the craft knife to gently scrape off any glitter that may have stuck to the bodies of the spiders.

Don 't forget to comment on all the blogs.  Here are the posts for today:

Got It? Haunt It--If the Shoe Fits!

This is my last post in the Stampendous Theme Week, "Got it? Haunt It".  This card really surprised me, because I was having a hard time deciding what to do with this stamp.  Once I chose a more "glam" theme, I just kept thinking, "What would Glinda wear?"

Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Chameleon™ Markers (Purple Grape, Spring Green, Black)
Shrink Plastic
Hole Punch
French Curve or Oval Punch
Heat Embossing Tool
Long Handled Tweezers
Clear & Orange Rhinestones
Scotch® 1/2" Adhesive Tape by 3M®
5" Machine and Adhesive by Xyron®
Ribbon by May Arts
Paper Trimmer
Sharp Scissors
  1. Cut the base of the card 3 3/4" by 11" and fold on the top.
  2. Cut purple card stock to 3 3/4" by 5 1/2" and adhere to the base.
  3. Stamp both green and orange card stock with the Damask Bats in VersaMark Ink.
  4. Pour clear embossing powder over the stamped images and shake off the excess.
  5. Use the Heat Tool to emboss the powder.
  6. Stamp the Shoe Fits Image with Memento Ink on the Mixed Media Paper.
  7. Color the Shoe Fits image with Chameleon Markers in Spring Green and Purple Grape.
  8. Sand the shrink plastic.
  9. Place the Spider Stencil on the plastic and lightly trace the images with a pen.
  10. Color the spider with a Black Chameleon Pen.
  11. Use the hole punch to create a hole between the upper legs.
  12. Use sharp scissors to cut around the spider.  Cut around the legs instead of between them.  Also, leave plenty of plastic above the hole.
  13. Use the Heat Tool to shrink the spider.  You can hold it in place with the long handled tweezers.
  14. Use the French Curve to draw an oval around the letters in the Shoe Fits Image and then cut it out.  Alternatively, you could use a punch or die.
  15. Adhere the words to a piece of black card stock and cut, leaving a little border of black around the oval.
  16. Cut around the shoe.
  17. Trim the green bats card stock, black card stock and orange card stock.
  18. Adhere the orange card stock to the black and that to the green, lining up the top edges.
  19. Mount the words to the orange bats.
  20. Run the shoe through the Xyron machine and adhere to the orange bats.
  21. Place clear rhinestones on the shoe.
  22. Place the orange rhinestone on the spider body.
  23. Wrap the ribbons and beads around the bottom of the green bats, creating a nice bow.
  24. Attach the spider as a charm to the bow using twine, and creating an additional bow.
  25. Mount the project to the background.
I hope you enjoyed this card!  It is one of my favorites.  Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.  Then, check out the rest of the players today:

Pumpkin Pie Week--Jack-O-Lantern Card

This week at Stampendous is Pumpkin Pie Week.  I decided to make my card a little scarier:

Here is how I made it:

Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Ribbon by May Arts
Chameleon Pens in Grass Green, Olive Green, Seville Orange, Crimson Red, Warm Sunset, Bark, Black
Scotch 1/2" Adhesive Tape
Scotch Removable Tape
3D Foam Tape
Distress Ink in Walnut Stain
Ink Blending Tool
Heat Embossing Tool
Paper Towel

Instructions:

  1. The base card stock is 5 1/4" by 10", folded on the top.
  2. Cut green card stock to 5 1/4" by 5".
  3. Cut tan card stock to the size of the Spider Web Stencil and another piece just larger than the sentiment.
  4. Use the Distress Ink and the ink blending tool to distress the edges of all the tan and the green card stock.
  5. Tape the spider web stencil to the tan card stock with removable tape.
  6. Load the stencil brush with the VersaMark Ink.
  7. Tap off the excess ink on a paper towel.
  8. Use a circular motion to apply the ink over the stencil.
  9. Remove the stencil and cover the image with the Clear Embossing Powder. Tap off the excess.
  10. Use the heat tool to emboss.
  11. Stamp the sentiment on the small piece of tan card stock with Memento.
  12. Stamp the spiders over the spider web with Memento.
  13. Tape the Jack O Lantern Stencil on black card stock using the removable tape.  Place a long piece across the top of the stencil first, as it will act like a hinge.
  14. Use the palette knife to place a strip of Matte Black Embossing Paste above the stencil.  Make sure there is a long enough strip to cover the entire jack o lantern image.
  15. Use the paste spreader to pull the embossing paste over the stencil. (Imagine a squeegee).  The entire jack o lantern image should be filled.
  16. Remove the tape from the sides and bottom of the stencil.
  17. Carefully lift the Jack O Lantern Stencil from a corner like a door on a hinge.  Then, pull the whole stencil off the card stock.
  18. Clean the stencil and let the pasted image dry completely.
  19. After the jack o lantern is dry, replace the stencil over the paste.
  20. Repeat steps 13-18, but use the crackle paste instead of the matte black.
  21. When paste is completely dry, it will appear to be cracked and a matte white in color.
  22. Color the jack o lantern image with Chameleon Pens.  You may have to color it a couple of times to get the look you like. The paste lightens the color as the markers dry.
  23. Trim the jack o lanterns image closely, leaving just a little black around the subject.
  24. Cut black card stock a little larger than the spider web image and another piece a little larger than the sentiment.
  25. Attach the images to their corresponding black mats.
  26. Attach the jack o lanterns to the spider web image.  Adhere this to the green background.
  27. Wrap May Arts Ribbon around the bottom of the green card stock background.
  28. Attach the sentiment with 3D Foam Tape.
  29. Adhere the card to the base.

Tombow Collaboration--Fun with Pencils and Markers!

BannerGraphicToday, we have a blog hop using Tombow products, including a couple of wonderful prizes, so read on for your chance to win.
My project using these products is a Halloween card.

It was very easy to make.  All I had to do was stamp my Pumpkin Carving Rubber Stamp with Memento Ink on Mixed Media Paper.  These are products that were given to me by Stampendous for being on their design team.  Then, I tried out the Tombow Recycled Color Pencils, that I received as a gift from Tombow for participating in the hop this week.  I used a light, medium and dark color for each area.  This was a very relaxing experience, and the colors blended well.  I used a couple of layers to build up thick color.  Then, I moved to my Dual Brush Markers.  These markers are water based, and I love them so much that I purchased them in most of the available colors.  Today, I scribbled the colors 606, 665 and 679 on my Blending Palette.  Then, I used my water brush to pick up the colors and paint them onto the background.  The build up of colored pencils helped to resist the water in the spots where I accidentally painted over the lines.  To create even more texture, I colored over parts of the background with the pencils.  Then, I mounted the image on some card stock, and I was done.  Here is what those colored pencils look like:

Remember what I said about prizes?  There are two packages, which include:

  • Tombow Recycled Color Pencils 24 pack tin
  • A roll of Tombow Foam Tape
  • A Jumbo Perfectly Clear Handle
  • Your choice from Stampendous Create Fall, Create Christmas, Create Winter or Create a Poinsettia Cling Stamp set and Matching Dies

3)  Place the Swirl Stencil on the background and use a stencil brush and pigment ink to add color.
4)  Attach the Double Stick Mounting Paper on the back of the metal you are planning on using.  Run it through the die cut machine with the dies.  You will need one gold moon from the circular die and the dog cut once in black and once in copper.  Also, cut one collar with red metal.
5)  Use the Dreamweaver die tool to dot the "whiskers" into place.
6)  Sand the metal to add further dimension.
7)  Remove the backings from the metals and adhere to black card stock with a little room between each piece.
8)  Cut around the metal dog, leaving a little black edge all the way around.
9)  Paste the Happy Howl-o-ween onto white card stock with black glossy paste.  You will need the palette knife and the removable tape for this part.
10)  Lightly sand the shrink plastic.
11)  Use the bat stencil and the stencil brush to add black pigment.
12)  Use the Big Bite to create the largest hole above the bats.
13)  Cut a little outside of the bats and around the outside of the hole.
14)  Heat and shrink the bats.
15)  Assemble the top of the card.
16)  Use the Big Bite to create small holes for attaching the bats.
17)  Attach the bats with the floss.

Thanks for checking out this card.  I really enjoyed making it.
