Happy Birthday, Laura! A Pretty Bearded Iris Card.

Today is a VERY special birthday!  Laura Weed, our fearless leader, is celebrating another year on this planet.  In celebration, her team is having a Birthday Blog Hop!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!


Here is how I created this birthday card:

Materials:
DWLL516 Bearded Iris Stencil
Glossy White Embossing Paste
Paste Spreader
Dreamweaver Palette Knife
Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Core'dinations Card Stock
Small Glue Dots
Amplify in Electric Yellow
Spectrum Markers in LV2, LV3, CG1, CG2 and DG3
Scotch by 3M 1/2" Adhesive
May Arts Ribbon
Removable Tape
Embossing Heat Gun
Paper Trimmer

Instructions:

  1. Cut the base card stock 8 1/2" by 5 1/2" and fold on the side.
  2. Tape the Bearded Iris Stencil over green card stock with removable tape.  Use a tape strip all the way across the top of the stencil that will act as a hinge later.  Then tape both of the sides and bottom.
  3. Use the palette knife to remove the Glossy White Embossing Paste from the container and place on the paste spreader.  Place a strip of paste on the spreader that is as wide as the Iris image.
  4. Set the paste spreader on the stop of the stencil and pull it towards you, maintaining contact with the stencil, and filling in all the wells.
  5. Carefully remove the tape from the bottom and sides of the stencil.
  6. Using the top tape as a hinge, lift the bottom of the stencil carefully up and then away from the project.  Let dry completely.
  7. Color the Iris image with the Spectrum Markers.
  8. Squeeze the Amplify onto the iris to create the "beards" and heat with the embossing gun until it puffs up.
  9. Assemble the card, using a Glue Dot to adhere the knot in the May Arts ribbon.

Celebrate The Season with an Ornate Tree

The Stampendous theme this week is "Celebrate the Season".  I am combining it with "Dreamweaver Thursday" by presenting this tree.  It is easier to create than you might think.



Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Scotch Removable Tape
Scotch 1/2" Adhesive Tape
Chameleon Pens in Grass Green, Hot Cocoa, Crimson Red, Sunshine Yellow, Spring Meadow, Warm Sunset

Instructions:


  1. Cut card base to 7" by 10 1/4" and fold at the side.
  2. Cut blue card stock to 7" by 5 1/8" and adhere to the front of the card.
  3. Cut blue card stock to the size of the Ornate Christmas Tree Stencil.
  4. Tape the stencil over the top of the card stock using removable tape.  Be sure to use one large piece over the top edge of the stencil.  It will act as a hinge.
  5. Use the palette knife to remove Pearlescent Embossing Paste from the jar and lay a strip above the stencil.  Make sure you have a long enough strip to cover the entire width of the Christmas tree.
  6. Place the bottom edge of the paste spreader above the strip of paste and pull towards you.  The paste should completely fill in the wells of the Ornate Christmas Tree Stencil.
  7. Carefully remove the tape from the sides and the bottom of the stencil, leaving the tape on the top.
  8. Lift the stencil from the bottom corner like a door and then remove it entirely from the area. Let the paste dry.
  9. After the paste has dried, use the Chameleon Pens to color directly on it.
  10. Cut the card stock with the Christmas tree image to the size you prefer.
  11. Place Sticky Panels all the way around the inside of the front of the card.  Leave a slight border.
  12. Center the Christmas tree image on the card and adhere--using both your favorite adhesive and the inside of the Sticky Panels strips

Patty PopOns Puzzle Project

As for my project, I had a tough time deciding what to do, until this week.  I was subbing in a room that I have worked in a few times.  It was a classroom for cognitively challenged adults, and it is filled with joy and enthusiasm.  We were working on a puzzle, but it was a little too difficult for many of the students.  The Patty Pop Ons Puzzles are easy to hold, assemble (they all fit into each other) and can be done in the short amount of free time available in some of these programs.  Therefore, I decided to use this as a regular puzzle--something that I can give them for the holidays when I sub there again next week.  Here is the project:
 It was very simple.  I wanted it to be appropriate for the winter holidays, and something that, while it actually had only one correct way to go together, would still look good if many of the pieces were not in quite the right place.  These snowflake sections will still look okay even if they are rearranged.  Here is how I created this easy project:
Materials:

Snowflake Sky Stamp R234
Crystal Angel Stamp R236
Patty Pop Ons Puzzle
Stayzon Azure Blue
Stayzon Midnight Blue
Stayzon Cleaner
Heat Tool
Ultra Fine Sharpies in various colors
Beacon Felt Glue

Directions:

1)  Attach the Snowflake Sky Stamp onto the large acrylic handle and ink with the Azure Stayzon.
2)  Heat the area that you want to stamp with the heat tool.
3)  Stamp the image and repeat steps 1-3 until you have created a frame around the puzzle.  There will be a little overlap.
4)  Attach the Crystal Angel Stamp onto the acrylic handle and ink with the Midnight Blue Stayzon.
5)  Heat the center of the puzzle and stamp the image.
6)  Let the images dry.
7)  Use the Stayzon Ink Cleaner on the stamps.
8)  Color the image with the Sharpies.  I chose the Sharpies because even though they will lift some of the Stayzon Ink, the color will stay on the foam.  Also, I was less concerned with the possibility of damaging my Sharpies that I would have been about damaging more expensive markers.  The light purple really raised quite a bit of that Azure color, but I actually liked the blended look on that color.
9)  Use the felt glue on the inside showflake and cover with glitter.  Let dry.  I didn't want to include tons of glitter on this, as I do not want to annoy the teacher in that room.

Sugar Plum Wishes Candy Cane Card

This week's Stampendous theme is Sugar Plum Wishes.  I took a few liberties here, as the candy cane is not actually a sugar plum, but a sugar plum IS a candy, right?
We also have a Patty Pop Ons puzzle hop this week, and I will be posting for that tomorrow, but today I am posting Dreamweaver Thursday.  There will be a few posts for the puzzle pieces in today's links.



Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Splendor Circus Ink Pad
Double Sided Mounting Paper
Vegetable Based Soap
Ribbon by May Arts
Scotch 1/2" Adhesive Tape
Scotch Removable Tape
Heat Embossing Tool
Paper Towel

Instructions:

  1. Cut card base to 8 3/4" by 6" and fold at the side.
  2. Cut red card stock to 4 3/8" by 6" and adhere to the front of the card.
  3. Cut green card stock to match the I Beam Stencil.
  4. Place I Beam Stencil on card stock.  Tape edges with removable tape.
  5. Load the stencil brush with green from the ink pad.
  6. Tap off the excess ink on paper towel.
  7. Use the loaded stencil brush in gentle circles over the top of the stencil to create a subtly stenciled background.
  8. Cut the mounting paper to the size of the Candy Cane Stencil.
  9. Rub the bar of soap directly on the back of the  Candy Cane Stencil to make it easier to release later.  When you are done, there should be a cloudy layer over the entire back of the stencil.
  10. Use your CLEAN stencil brush to brush off any crumbly pieces of soap from the stencil.
  11. Peel one side of the mounting paper and lay the Candy Cane stencil on top of it, soap side on the sticky paper.
  12. Carefully push the red embossing powder into the wells of the candy cane.
  13. Lay small piles of the two green glitters next to and in the ribbon arean
  14. Gently push the green glitters into the wells.  Remember that only the first color on any sticky section will color that area, however glitter in the candy cane area can taint the red.  Push the glitter down slightly.
  15. Use your stencil brush to brush off any excess glitter and embossing powder.
  16. Place the project face down on a flat surface.
  17. Carefully peel a corner up from the edge of the stencil and use it to gently remove the mounting paper from the stencil.
  18. Use your heat tool only over the embossing powder areas.  Avoid heating the bow area, as you could burn the glitter.  Let cool a moment.
  19. Pour the white pearl glitter over the newly exposed sticky paper.
  20. Brush off any excess glitter.
  21. Remove the backing paper and adhere the Candy Cane to red card stock.
  22. Trim the red card stock close to the glitter, creating a thin mat.
  23. Adhere the mat to the green stenciled card stock.
  24. Wrap the May Arts Ribbon around the end of the green card stock and tie in a bow.
  25. Attach the card to the card base.

Family Time with Friends Dreamweaver Cardinal Card

This week, the Stampendous team is posting on the theme "Family Time with Friends".  My post might not seem to fit that theme, but I can assure you that it does.  My grandmother always loved cardinals.  I lost her a year and a half ago, but will always think of her any time that I see cardinals, and I created this card with her in mind.  She also loved to sing.  She was asked to sing with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra when she was only 17, but her father wouldn't allow it.  She still sang throughout her life, and even in the nursing home, she was known as the singing lady.  Me, well I continue the tradition.  Although I have never been a particularly great singer, I sing in a choir.  That is where the friends come in.  I sing with a group of fine men and women that I can call my friends.  Here is how I created my card.

Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Double Sided Mounting Paper
Vegetable Based Soap
Scotch 1/2" Adhesive Tape
Glue Stick
Chameleon Markers in Grass Green and Spring Meadow
Manual Die Cut Machine

Instructions:

  1. Cut card base to 8 1/2" by 5 3/4" and fold at the side.
  2. Cut red card stock to 4 1/4" by 5 3/4".
  3. Stamp the red card stock with the Music Score Stamp using VersaMark.
  4. Stamp white card stock with the Sing Noel phrase using VersaFine.
  5. Cut the mounting paper to the size of the Cardinals N Holly Stencil.
  6. Rub the bar of soap directly on the back of the stencil to make it easier to release later.  When you are done, there should be a cloudy layer over the entire back of the stencil.
  7. Use your stencil brush to brush off any crumbly pieces of soap from the stencil.
  8. Peel one side of the mounting paper and lay the Cardinals N Holly stencil on top of it, soap side on the sticky paper.
  9. Carefully lay small piles of glitter next to the stencil wells that you want to color.  For example, the green glitters should be in/next to the holly sections of the stencil.
  10. Gently push the corresponding colors of glitter into the wells.  Remember that only the first color on any sticky section will color that area.  Push the glitter down slightly.
  11. Use your stencil brush to brush off any excess glitter.
  12. Place the project face down on a flat surface.
  13. Carefully peel a corner up from the edge of the stencil and use it to gently remove the mounting paper from the stencil.
  14. Pour the white pearl glitter over the newly exposed sticky paper.
  15. Brush off any excess glitter.
  16. Remove the backing paper and adhere the glittered Cardinals N Holly to black card stock.
  17. Run green card stock through your die cut machine with the Holly Die.
  18. Color the holly leaf with Chameleon Pens.
  19. Use the glue stick on top of the holly leaf and cover with crystal glitter.
  20. Create green and black mats for your main images and adhere them.
  21. Attach the music score to the card base and the images to the music score. Use the die cut holly under the words and overlapping the cardinal mat.

Santa Theme Week Stocking Card

The Stampendous theme this week is Santa.  I know this isn't technically a Santa card, but I can imagine that this stocking, hung with care, waiting for Santa, is just the type of stocking that Santa would actually wear himself.  That seemed to follow the theme well enough for me.  Stampendous team members are also showing Action Wobbles cards, but this is not one of them.  This card was created with a little stamping, some die cuts, and some embossing powder.  


Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
May Arts Ribbon
Small Queen and Co. Rhinestones
Xyron X Adhesive
Scotch Brand 1/2 inch Adhesive Tape
Die Cut Machine (I used Cuttlebug)
Big Bite
Embossing Heat Tool
Paper Trimmer

Instructions:

  1. The base card stock size was 4 1/2" by 11" and it was folded on the top edge.
  2. Use the Jumbo Acrylic Handle and the Snowflake Sky Stamp to stamp red card stock with Versamark Ink.
  3. Generously pour Opaque Winter Wonderland Embossing Powder over the stamped snowflake image and shake off the excess.
  4. Use the heat tool to heat emboss the powder.
  5. Stamp white card stock with the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.
  6. Use your die cut machine and the Nested Stocking Die to cut the stocking shape from the embossed card stock, the stocking top from Sticky Panels and the Holly Die from green card stock.
  7. Remove the paper from the top of the die cut Sticky Panel and generously pour the 3D White Glitter Embossing Powder over it.  Shake off the excess.
  8. Use your heat tool to emboss the powder.
  9. Cut close to the sentiment image and then cut a thin red mat for behind it.
  10. Cut red card stock to match the front of the card.
  11. Cut dotted green card stock to fit inside the red.
  12. Adhere down the stocking, stocking top and holly on the dotted green card stock, leaving room for the ribbons.
  13. Run two pieces of ribbon through your Xyron "X" machine to get adhesive on the back.
  14. Adhere the red mat (the one that will go behind the sentiment) to the dotted green card stock.
  15. Place the adhesive backed ribbon on the green dotted card stock, starting with the bottom ribbon and wrapping a little under the sides.
  16. Adhere the sentiment inside the white rectangle.
  17. Use the Crop-a-Dile to create two small holes on the top of the stocking.
  18. Run ribbon through the holes and tie.
  19. Adhere the large red card stock to the card.
  20. Adhere the green dotted card stock inside the red card stock.
  21. Attach rhinestones.

Old Whipped Topping Container
Baking Soda
Salt
Small Pieces of Cardboard to fit into the bag
Non Stick Craft Sheet
Tape
Stencil Brush
Fabric Paint in White, Yellow and Green

Sandpaper
Stazon Black Ink
Manual Die Cut Machine

INSTRUCTIONS:

1)  Rinse the bag under very hot water, using a little baking soda like soap-scrubbing it in and rinsing it out. 



2)  While it is still wet, place the bag into the whipped topping container.

3)  Squeeze the Momento ReInkers directly onto the bag, moving it around occasionally to find blank areas to color.


4)  Cover the bag with a little salt.


 5)  Fill the container with water until it covers the bag.



 6)  Cover the container and shake to agitate the dye.


 7)  Pour out the dye and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear.  Then, let the bag dry or throw in the dryer.


 8)  Place cardboard in the bag to create a flat surface.  Then, tape the stencil onto the bag.


 9)  Squeeze white fabric paint onto the craft sheet and tap stencil brush into it.


 10)  Tap the brush onto paper towel to remove the excess paint.


 11)  Rub the brush over the top of the stencil.  Repeat these last two steps until the entire stencil has been painted.


12)  Remove the stencil and let the paint dry.


 13)  Use the regular brush to paint over the stencilled image.  Then, let dry completely.


14)  Sand the shrink plastic.
15)  Stamp the shrink plastic with the daisy image and Stazon Ink.
16)  Run the stamped image through the die cut machine with the daisy die.
17)  Use the Prismacolors to color the image.
18)  Punch a hole in the image.
19)  Use your heat gun to shrink the daisy.  It will get all wrinkly, but just keep heating, and it will straighten out.

20)  Color the top of the daisy petals with the white pen.
21)  Use the needle and thread to sew on the beads and the daisy charms you created!
