Graphic 45, Burlap and Grapes Card

This week, Stampendous is featuring gorgeous Graphic 45 papers.  I just love their patterns.  My card also features the added textures of cork, burlap, and twine.

Here's how it was done:

MATERIALS:

Removable Tape
Graphic 45 Rare Oddities Collection Brews and Potions Paper
Spectrum Markers EB8, DG3, CG2, FL5, LV1, PL4, LV2, LV3 and JG6
Creative Impressions Brads
My Colors Card Stock in Evergreen and Deep Purple
Green Burlap
Cork Paper
Twine
Zip Dry
Fabri-Tac
Big Bite Tool

INSTRUCTIONS:
The card base is 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" folded in half for a 5 1/2" by 4 1/4" card.

1)  Tape the stencil, right side up, over the cork paper.  Be sure to use a single large piece all the way across the top to use as a hinge when removing the stencil.
2)  Remove some paste from the container with the palette knife and place on the bottom front of the paste spreader.
3)  Place the bottom of the spreader on the top of the stencil, with the paste facing you.
4)  Pull the paste covered spreader down over the stencil, maintaining contact with the stencil and filling in the wells with the paste as you go.
5)  Place the excess paste back in the container.
6)  Carefully remove the tape from the sides and bottom of the stencil.
7)  Using the top tape as a hinge, carefully remove the stencil and let the paste dry.
8)  When the paste is completely dry, use the Spectrum Markers to color directly on the white paste.
9)  Use the Fabri-Tac to adhere the burlap to the patterned paper and the purple card stock to the burlap and let dry.
10)  Use the Zip Dry to adhere the cork paper to the card stock.
11)  Use the Big Bite to punch holes for the brads through all the layers.
12)  Place brads into the holes.
13)  Wrap and tie twine around the bottom.
14)  Use Zip Dry to adhere the card to the background and the card base.

Fresh Fall Fun--Falling Leaves

Fresh Fall Fun is the theme this week at Stampendous.  We are featuring fall projects from the new catalog.  Here is my project for today:

MATERIALS
Build A Wreath Cutting Die Set DCP1007
Falling Leaves Stencil DWLL3004
Birthday Assortment Clear Stamps SSC1115
Acrylic Stamping Handle
Gold Embossing Paste
Paste Spreader DWLM5010
Pearl Lustre Embossing Powders in Carnelian and Jade
Opaque Embossing Powders in Ruby Red and Honey
Embossing Heat Tool HT400
Dreamweaver Palette Knife
My Colors Card Stock in Goldenrod, Parrot, Brown Eyes, Sky, Mandaring and Harvest Orange
Manual Die Cut Machine
Versafine in Toffee
Removable Tape
Burlap
Fabri-Tac Glue
Awl
Tapestry Needle
Hemp Ribbon
Adhesive--I used Zip Dry

DIRECTIONS:

1)   Use the leaf die from the Build a Wreath set to cut out leaves.
2)  Stamp words on the leaves and distress the edges with the Versafine.
3)  Tape the stencil over the blue card stock.  Be sure to tape one piece across the top of the stencil that you will use as a himge when you remove it.  Tape all the way around the stencil.
4)  Use the palette knite to remove the paste from the container and place it on the bottom of one side of the paste spreader.
5)  Place the spreader on the top edge of the stencil.  Be sure the paste side is facing you.
6)  Pull the spreader towards you, treating it like a squeegee.  The spreader should maintain contact with the stencil at all times and will deposit the paste into the wells.
7)  Remove the excess paste with the palette knife and replace it into the container.
8)  Remove the tape from the stencil everywhere except for the top.
9)  Gently lift the stencil, using the tape as a hinge.  Then, remove the stencil entirely.
10)  Sprinkle the top of the paste with the various embossing powders while it is still wet.  The let it mostly dry.
11)  When the paste is mostly dry (about a half an hour or so), use the heat gun to heat it from underneath first, and then on the top.  The paste and powders will bubble.
12)  When the project is completely dry, adhere it to the mat.
13)  Use the fabric glue to adhere the burlap to the background paper and the mat to the burlap.
14)  Use the awl to punch guide holes into the mat and through the burlap and background paper.
15)  Use the needle and hemp to sew the project.
16)  Adhere the project to the card base.
17)  Adhere the leaves to the card.

Here are the other posts for today.  Take a look at some of the other great stencils in the newest Stampendous Catalog:

A Festively Fall October!

This is the first Thursday of October, and it marks a new challenge at Dreamweaver Stencils.  It is "Festively Fall" month!  This first week, I am featuring something I almost never post--a paste project.  Let me show you how it is done.
MATERIALS:
Dreamweaver Stencils LL 3015 Raven Vane
Dreamweaver Stencils LG 616 Leaf Texture
Dreamweaver Matte Black Embossing Paste
Removable Tape
Dreamweaver Paste Spreader LM 2010
Dreamweaver Metallic FX in Purple Satin
Distress Ink in Peeled Paint
Distress Ink in Spiced Marigold
Distress Ink in Mustard Seed
Distress Ink in Barn Door
Distress Ink in Aged Mahogany
Distress Ink in Tea Dye
Three Dreamweaver Gold Handled Brushes
Inkssentials Blending Tool with Foam
Inkssetials Non Stick Craft Sheet
Paper Towel
Cardstock in Ivory, Green, Black and Kraft
DIRECTIONS:
1)  Tape the leaf texture background stencil onto the ivory cardstock and the craft sheet.  You only need one piece of removable tape for this.
2)  Use your gold handled brushes to stencil the color from the Distress Ink onto the cardstock.  You will pick up color with the brush from the ink, tap a little off on the paper towel, and swirl it over the leaves.  I love Distress Ink here because it blends well and comes out of the brushes easily.  I suggest three brushes, because one should be used in the yellow, one in the reds and the last in the green.
3)  After you get the leaves the way you like them, remove the stencil.
4)  Now, use your blending tool and the Tea Dye Distress Ink to distress the leaf cardstock.  You will have the foam pad on the blending tool.  Tap it into the ink and, starting on the craft sheet, blend the color into the cardstock, moving the tool in a circular motion.
5)  You can flick water onto the cardstock if you like, to make an even more distressed look.  Wait until it is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.
6)  Place the raven vane on top of the background and tape with the removable tape all the way around.
7)  Place the Matte Black Embossing Paste onto the spreader.
8)  Put the spreader on top of the stencil and pull down, as if you are squeegeeing the stencil.
9)  Carefully remove the stencil, using the last piece of tape as a hinge to lift the stencil.
10)  Let dry.
11)  Dip a finger into the Metallic FX and rub around the bird to create highlights.
12)  Assemble card.

Okay, I am done, now it is your turn.  Make something "Festively Fall", upload it and link it to the Dream It Up! blog OR you can email a photo to Lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com.  Join in the fun for a chance to win your choice of stencil!

Inky Falling Leaves

So far, I have been "Getting Inky" this September with alcohol inks.  This week, just like the weather here in Michigan, I am in the mood for a change.  I am going with a simple embossing and inking strategy.  Here is how this simple card is made:

MATERIALS
Manual Die Cut Machine with mats (I used the Cuttlebug)
Brown Core'dinations Color Core Paper
Ivory Cardstock
Ivory Parchment Cardstock
Fall Colored Yarn
Mini Mister filled with rubbing alcohol
Distress Ink in Mustard Seed
Distress Ink in Spiced Marmalade
Distress Ink in Barn Red
Distress Ink in Peeled Paint
Distress Ink in Pine Needles
Distress Ink in Tea Dye
Distress Ink in Walnut Stain
Blending Tool
Craft Sheet
Paper Towel
Sanding Block

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Spritz the back of the Core'dinations paper with rubbing alcohol and run through the embossing machine with Leaf Texture Stencil and Stamping Details Mat.  For the Cuttlebug, the sandwich is A Plate, stencil face down, Core'dinations paper face down, Details Mat, and two B Plates.  You will have to run this piece in two passes, because the stencil is smaller than the area needed.  Just move the stencil down and run it again.
2)  Follow step one again with parchment colored cardstock and the Falling Leaves Stencil.
3)  With the stencil still in place on the Falling Leaves part, you will be coloring with Distress Inks.  To start, use a Gold Handled Brush and pick up some of the Mustard Seed Color.  Brush a little off onto the paper towel and rub in circles over the areas you would like yellow.  Cover a little more area than you would like on all sides.  You will blend new colors into the yellow.
4)  Switch to a different Gold Handled Brush.  Follow the same procedure as step 3, but with Spiced Marmalade.  Brush out excess color when done.
5)  Use the same brush with Barn Door.
6)  Switch to a different Gold Handled Brush.  Following the same procedure, use Peeled Paint and then Pine Needles.
7)  Sand the top of the leaves on the brown cardstock and wipe with paper towel.
8)  Rip edges of brown cardstock and then brush them with the Walnut Stain.
9)  Put colored leaves on craft sheet.  Use foam and the blending tool to edge the parchment cardstock with Tea Dye ink.
10)  Assemble card.

I love how the Distress Inks worked on this card.  They were very vivid and blended extremely well.
If you want to give the Inky Challenge a try, you have until the end of the month to take a picture of your creation and either email it to Lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com or upload it and link it to Mr. Linky at the www.dreamweaverstencils.blogspot.com .  Give it a try and you have the chance to win the stencil of your choice!  That's right, any stencil at all.  What do you have to loose?  Get inky with us!
