Summer Fun and a Blue Morpho

I love to take pictures.  It is almost an obsession.  One of the places that I really enjoy snapping away is in the butterfly house at the Detroit Zoo.  I have always wanted to get a decent picture of the exotic Blue Morpho butterfly.  The gorgeous, flashing blue color is only visible when their wings are open, which is only when they are flying.  I have never really gotten a decent picture of  one.  I guess that is why I am so obsessed with creating blue butterflies, like the one here.
So, as you can tell if you are a follower of my blog, this technique is my "Triple Glitter" technique.  The basis of this is Lynell's Double Glitter technique seen here.  For the amazingly flashy butterfly, I first soaped the back of the Open Butterfly LG740 Stencil.  Then, I brushed off the "soap chads" and applied the stencil soap side down to the double sided adhesive paper.  I started glittering with Art Institute Glitter D 15 Sea Nymph. Because it is a Dazzler Glitter, it has large chunks that don't cover the entire exposed adhesive.  This leaves room for my next layer of glitter, Hologram #329,  Egyptian Blue.  My final layer of glitter was Microfine Opaque #504 Blue Diadem.  After I was done with the iimage, I turned it over and carefully removed the paper from the stencil.  I covered the newly exposed adhesive in Ultrafine Transparent 85 Crystal.  The word was done almost the same way.  I started with the summer stencil LM 294. I soaped it and placed it on adhesive paper that was about 1/4' larger than the stencil in every direction.  I used Blue Diadem on the words, Dragonfly around the edge,  and Crystal on the backgound.
See, wasn't that simple?  It is my own special version of a CAS card.  If there is some technique that you would like to try or something that is easy for you, give this month's Summer Fun challenge a try!  Just make a project, email it to Lynell or upload it and link it to the Dream It Up blog for a chance to win a just-released holiday stencil.  Looking or more inspiration?  Check out the rest of the Dream Teamers' blogs listed on the left of this page.   Get inspired and have some Summer Fun! Good luck!

  1. The blue morphos were my fave at the Victoria Butterfly Gardens in British Columbia. I followed one around for an hour hoping he'd stop with his wings open. The best I could do was a far away shot of one on a window way up above.
