To me, this lovely saying really fits with fall.  It is so gorgeous, but just a fleeting moment!  You need to really experience it.

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Soap up the back of the stencil with the Handmade Hawaiian Soap.
2)  Brush off the excess soap that gathers around the stencil holes.
3)  Place stencil, soap side down, on the Double Sided Adhesive Paper.
4)  Use the glitter to color the leaves any way you like.  Don't be afraid to use more than one color on a leaf.
5)  Brush off the excess glitter.
6)  Place project stencil side down on a flat surface and carefully remove the paper from the stencil.
7)  Cover the adhesive paper with crystal glitter.
8)  Stamp the image with Distress Ink and cover with the adhesive powder.
9)  Heat with the heat gun.
10)  Pour the Microfine Red Rock Glitter over the sticky glue.
11)  Brush off excess and assemble the card.

A Blooming Spring

Here is my Blooming Spring card for this week.  I hadn't used Crackle Paste in a long time, and I was due!  Because I was going for an antique look, I thought it would work well with the Graphic 45 French Country Collection and Distress Inks.  It was simple.  The hardest part was waiting for the paste to dry.  Here is how it goes:
MATERIALS:
Dreamweaver Stencil LL 3023 Tall Poppy
Dreamweaver Stencil Picasso LL332
Dreamweaver Matte Black Embossing Paste
Dreamweaver Crackle Embossing Paste
Dreamweaver Palette Knife
Removable Tape
3 Stencil Brushes (either Blue Handled, Gold Handled, or both)
Distress Inks in Mustard Seed, Forest Moss, Pine Needles, Barn Door, Aged Mahogany and Frayed
                       Burlap
Blending Tool
Non Stick Craft Sheet
Graphic 45 French Country Paper
Ivory Card Stock
Brown Card Stock
Ribbon

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Distress ivory card stock, if desired with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.
2)  Use Removable Tape to tape the Poppy Stencil down over the top of the ivory card stock.  You can tape it directly to the craft sheet.
3)  Use the Palette Knife to spread the Matte Black Embossing Paste over the stencil.  You can use it as if it were a squeegee.  Touch the palette knife directly on the stencil and pull it all the way down.
4)  Remove the stencil to wash it, and set the project aside to dry.

5)  When the embossing paste is dry, put completely dry stencil over the top of it.
6)  Repeat steps 2-4 with Crackle Paste instead of Matte Black Paste.

7)  Let dry.  As it dries, it will crackle and turn opaque white.

8)  Replace stencil.  Use the stencil brushes and Distress Inks to apply color.  You can use the Picasso to help define and refine edges.
9)  Assemble the card.

Festively Fall Ranger Fun and a Little Trick (or Treat!)

DIRECTIONS:

1)  Tape leaf stencil over teal cardstock with removable tape onto craft sheet.  You will be taping all the way around the stencil, with the first piece being a "hinge" you can use while removing the stencil.  Dog ear the other edges to make them easier to remove and try to get each side in a single pass.  Check out the picture below.

 

2)  Use the paste spreader to remove embossing paste from the jar and lay a strip across the top of the stencil.

3)  Use the back of the paste spreader like a squeegee to spread paste all the way down the stencil.  You can put the excess paste back into the container.  Try doing this in one sweep if possible.

4)  Remove the tape from all the sides EXCEPT for your hinge side. 

5)  Carefully lift the stencil, using that last piece of tape as a hinge.  See the picture.

6)  Clean the paste spreader quickly and dry thoroughly.  You can then use it to spread the Distress Embossing Powders across the pasted surface.  You don't have to worry about completely covering the area, that is why I used the red (in case I missed some spots).

 

 

7)  When the powders are the way you like them, flick off the excess and let dry.  I love the way the colors come out on the red paste--and they don't need to be heat set with this method.

8)  Use die cut machine to cut leaves from the kraft core paper.

9)  Use sanding block to sand and distress leaves.

10)  Use Distressing Tool to distress the edges of the leaves and the paper.

11)  Assemble card.

 

HAPPY HALLOWEEN PROJECT

I am sorry, but I just couldn't resist, as I love Halloween.  This project was inspired by the Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World.  There is a scene where a skeleton hand is trying to push open a coffin.  It is nailed shut (well, almost) where mine is chained shut.  Both have a glow coming from the inside.......

DIRECTIONS:

1)  Stain the box using one layer of Tea Dye Distress Stain and then one layer of Vintage Photo.  Let dry.  (I used two different colors to add more depth of color--you can use one).

2)  Paint the inside of the box with gold to reflect the color.  You can uncap the paint and dip with the small brush to get into the corners.  Let dry.

3)  Place spider web stencil where you would like the image.  Stencil, dipping the large stencil brush into the Snow Cap paint, brushing it off on paper towel, and then brushing it in circles over the stencil.  Let dry.  (I moved the stencil down to get the bottom of the coffin).

4)  When web is finished, position the spider stencil onto the web and, using the same techinique as the leaf card, paste it with the black glossy paste.  Sprinkle with the red and black embossing powders.  Let dry.

 

 

5)  Cut up foil and add it to the front and the back of a piece of grungeboard.

6)  Use the Vagabond, the tray and the mini lock die to cut a lock from the foil covered grunge board.

7)  Use alchohol inks and applicator to distress the metal lock and all the metal pieces on the coffin.

8)  Use small stencil brush to cover areas of metal with the Distress Embossing Ink and emboss with Walnut Stain and then Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powders.  This makes the metal look rusted.

9)  Use the Picket Fence Distress Marker to enhance any webbing that is not white enough.

10)  Use paste spreader to add black paste against the coffin opening and make an "ooze" down.

11)  Cover with Peeled Paint Embossing Powder and use heat gun to set.  This will make it bubble and change colors a little.

12)  Add skeleton (make sure to leave the hand sticking out) and cracked glow stick.

13)  Wrap with chain and close it and the lock with a large (easy to open) jump ring.  DONE!

Working with Ranger Embossing Powders!

DIRECTIONS
1)  Run the pumpkin stencil and the foil tape sheet through the Vagabond with the rubber mat.  You will be setting up as if you are cutting a Cuttlebug Die, but also include the rubber mat.  Make sure that you have the stencil face up, the metal face up and the rubber mat in the middle of your "sandwich".
2)  Use the Mercart tool to push the metal into the edges of the stencil.  You are creating "wells" to put your embossing powders in.  Be gentle with the tool to avoid ripping the metal.

 

3)  Use the blending tool and the alcohol inks to color the metal.

 

 

 4)  Use your Perfect Pearls Pen to place the shadows and cover with Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powders.

5)  Heat.  BE CAREFUL not to overheat and burn. 

 



6)  Add the Spiced Marmalade Powders and heat.  Then, add the Peeled Paint and heat.

 

7)  To brighten up the color a little, add additional layers of Spiced Marmalade.

8)  When all the embossing is finished, use a craft knife to scrape out the lines in the pumpkin.

 

9)  Use removable tape to attach the sunflower stencil to the Tim Holtz paper. 

10)  Use the stencil brushes and Distress Ink to stencil the image onto the paper.

11)  Use QTips with Blending Solution to remove any excess alcohol ink.

 

11)  Assemble card.

A Festively Fall October!

This is the first Thursday of October, and it marks a new challenge at Dreamweaver Stencils.  It is "Festively Fall" month!  This first week, I am featuring something I almost never post--a paste project.  Let me show you how it is done.
MATERIALS:

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Tape the leaf texture background stencil onto the ivory cardstock and the craft sheet.  You only need one piece of removable tape for this.
2)  Use your gold handled brushes to stencil the color from the Distress Ink onto the cardstock.  You will pick up color with the brush from the ink, tap a little off on the paper towel, and swirl it over the leaves.  I love Distress Ink here because it blends well and comes out of the brushes easily.  I suggest three brushes, because one should be used in the yellow, one in the reds and the last in the green.
3)  After you get the leaves the way you like them, remove the stencil.

4)  Now, use your blending tool and the Tea Dye Distress Ink to distress the leaf cardstock.  You will have the foam pad on the blending tool.  Tap it into the ink and, starting on the craft sheet, blend the color into the cardstock, moving the tool in a circular motion.

5)  You can flick water onto the cardstock if you like, to make an even more distressed look.  Wait until it is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.
6)  Place the raven vane on top of the background and tape with the removable tape all the way around.
7)  Place the Matte Black Embossing Paste onto the spreader.
8)  Put the spreader on top of the stencil and pull down, as if you are squeegeeing the stencil.
9)  Carefully remove the stencil, using the last piece of tape as a hinge to lift the stencil.
10)  Let dry.
11)  Dip a finger into the Metallic FX and rub around the bird to create highlights.
12)  Assemble card.

Inky Falling Leaves

 

So far, I have been "Getting Inky" this September with alcohol inks.  This week, just like the weather here in Michigan, I am in the mood for a change.  I am going with a simple embossing and inking strategy.  Here is how this simple card is made:

 

MATERIALS

Dreamweaver Stencil LL 3004 Falling Leaves

Dreamweaver Stencil LG 616 Leaf Texture

3 Dreamweaver Gold Handled Brushes

Stamping Details Rubber Embossing Mat

Manual Die Cut Machine with mats (I used the Cuttlebug)

Brown Core'dinations Color Core Paper

Ivory Cardstock

Ivory Parchment Cardstock

Fall Colored Yarn

Mini Mister filled with rubbing alcohol

Distress Ink in Mustard Seed

Distress Ink in Spiced Marmalade

Distress Ink in Barn Red

Distress Ink in Peeled Paint

Distress Ink in Pine Needles

Distress Ink in Tea Dye

Distress Ink in Walnut Stain

Blending Tool

Craft Sheet

Paper Towel

Sanding Block

 

DIRECTIONS:

1)  Spritz the back of the Core'dinations paper with rubbing alcohol and run through the embossing machine with Leaf Texture Stencil and Stamping Details Mat.  For the Cuttlebug, the sandwich is A Plate, stencil face down, Core'dinations paper face down, Details Mat, and two B Plates.  You will have to run this piece in two passes, because the stencil is smaller than the area needed.  Just move the stencil down and run it again.

2)  Follow step one again with parchment colored cardstock and the Falling Leaves Stencil.

3)  With the stencil still in place on the Falling Leaves part, you will be coloring with Distress Inks.  To start, use a Gold Handled Brush and pick up some of the Mustard Seed Color.  Brush a little off onto the paper towel and rub in circles over the areas you would like yellow.  Cover a little more area than you would like on all sides.  You will blend new colors into the yellow.

4)  Switch to a different Gold Handled Brush.  Follow the same procedure as step 3, but with Spiced Marmalade.  Brush out excess color when done.

5)  Use the same brush with Barn Door.

6)  Switch to a different Gold Handled Brush.  Following the same procedure, use Peeled Paint and then Pine Needles.

7)  Sand the top of the leaves on the brown cardstock and wipe with paper towel.

8)  Rip edges of brown cardstock and then brush them with the Walnut Stain.

9)  Put colored leaves on craft sheet.  Use foam and the blending tool to edge the parchment cardstock with Tea Dye ink.

10)  Assemble card.

 

I love how the Distress Inks worked on this card.  They were very vivid and blended extremely well.

A Beautiful, Pasted, Christmas!

I don't often post projects made with paste, but today I am posting two.  This one has the more traditional approach to pasting.  The other is on Paper Craft Planet here.

This card actually has a couple of different techniques.

The Holly Sprig in the background is Holly Fourish Stencil LG 731.  I simply ran the cardstock through my Cuttlebug after spritzing it with a little rubbing alcohol.  The Sandwich is A Plate, upside down stencil, face down cardstock, Stamping Details Embossing Mat, and two B Plates.  Then, berfore I removed the stencil, I brushed it with a little Distress Ink, using two different colors .  I highlighted the berries with a little Stickles. 

The word is the Christmas Script Stencil LL 3009.  I taped the stencil over brown cardstock onto my craft sheet with removable tape.  Then, I used my paste spreader to "pull" the Metallic Gold Embossing Paste over the whole thing.  I removed the stencil and let it dry.  Then, I added red Stickles to the berries.  After everything was dry, I cut around it and assembled the card.

Dreamweaver and Stampendous Blog Hop Day One!

Get ready to be inked, pasted, encrusted, stenciled and stamped! All of this week the Dreamweaver Stencils' Dream Team and the Stampendous Design Teams will be providing some "Dream-pendous" inspiration for you, with multiple opportunities to win some fabulous prizes from both companies. Each day this week, you will be directed from both the Stampendous Impressions' blog or the Dream It Up! blog to the players du jour for your oohing and aaahing pleasure. Everyone will be playing on Saturday, the 14th with our final hop for the week. This is your opportunity to see how to mix and mingle your creativity...if you are a stenciler, you will be fascinated at combining stamps with your first love. If you are a stamper, you will be wowed at how stencils can add to your impressions.

Here is my creation.  It is an unusual style for me to be using.  It reminds me a bit more of my friend, Linda's style. I really enjoyed the stretch for this one.  Although I didn't realize it at the time, this card would probably qualify for the Stampendous Challenge on recylcing that is going on right now.  Let me explain.
I started this card with an encyclopedia that I found at the Salvation Army.  I knew that I had this lovely Stampendous Vintage Birdcage Stamp CRV266, so I found the page on Sound and ripped it out, ripped it up and distressed it with Tim Holtz Distress Brushed Corduroy Ink. I had two pieces when I was done, so I put them both on Double Sided Adhesive Paper to make my new "paper".  Then, I used that lovely stamp to stamp a couple of images in the background with the Distress Ink.  I also used that ink and stencilled just the musical staff portion of stencil LM 149 Music.  Using Versamark, I stamped the center birdcage and embossed it with Aged Gold Embossing Enamel.  This embossing powder is a little chunkier and creates a vintagey look, but don't expect it to show all the beautiful fine lines of a stamp like this.  This is why I stamped the black image.  I wanted to use something transparent for both this birdcage and the pasted bird's nest, but I did NOT want that overly shiney look of acetate.  That seemed too modern for my theme.  Fortunately for me, I had just finished a box of cereal that morning.  Well, I washed out the lining and used it here.  Clear, but not too modern looking.  I needed to use the Stayzon on the birdcage.  The Pearlescent Dreamweaver Embossing Paste was perfect on it with the LL 587 Nest Flourish Stencil.  I felt that both of these items could use a little extra "oomph", so I glued Mica Fragments on the reverse side with Art Glitter Dries Clear Designer Glue. The birdcage stamp was enhanced with FRM01-Pearlized Mica Fragments behind the bottom and top screw of the cage.  The bird was enhanced with FRM04-R Tea Stained, and the stencilled nest got FRM03-R Tarnished Mica Fragments.  I pasted the "Sing Your Song" off of the LG 734 Bird Words stencil with Dreamweaver Matte Black Paste. Finally, I used a modified Double Glitter Technique with stencil LS 94 Bird on Branch, Stampee Foil, Stampendous Plain Ol' Black Fun Flock and Stampendous Multi Fine Crystal Glitter.  The papers were edged with Versamark and Aged Copper Embossing Enamel.
