Playing With Paste and Oak Leaves

This week, the Stampendous Team is using the theme "Playing With Paste".  Now, as a former Dreamweaver Team member, I use paste a lot, so many projects could work with the theme.  But then, I got to thinking--how often do I PLAY with paste?  And what does that mean to me?  This "Molten Magic" Technique is a real blast.  You get to use glitter and embossing powder on paste, and when you heat it, it all bubbles up and makes a one-of-a-kind image in front of your eyes.  What could be more playful than that?

Plus:
Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper®
Scotch Removable Tape
Scotch 1/2" Adhesive Tape
Raffia
Heat Embossing Tool
Distress Blending Tool
Distress Ink in Tea Dye

Instructions:

  1. Cut the card stock to 9 1/4" by 5 1/2"and create a fold on the top.
  2. Cut brown paper to 4 5/8" by 5 1/2" and adhere to the front of the card.
  3. Use removable tape to adhere the Oak Leaves Stencil face up on top of a piece of ivory card stock.  Make sure to put the initial strip of tape all the way across the top of the stencil, creating a hinge.
  4. Use the palette knife to place a strip of Gold Embossing Paste across the bottom edge of the paste spreader.  Make sure you have a long enough strip of paste to cover the entirety of the Oak Leaves image from side to side.
  5. Place the bottom edge of the paste spreader directly on the top edge of the stencil with the paste facing you.
  6. Pull the paste spreader towards you across the stencil.  (Think of a squeegee).  The embossing paste should completely fill all the wells in the stencil.
  7. Use the palette knife to remove the excess paste from the spreader and place back in the container.
  8. Carefully remove the tape from the sides and bottom of the stencil, leaving the hinge on top.
  9. Lift the stencil from a bottom corner, like a door and then remove it entirely from the area.
  10. While the paste is still wet, quickly sprinkle the embossing paste, glitters and mica powders over the leaves and acorns that you want to add color to.  If you are careful and only use a small pinch at a time, you can somewhat control where the different colors go.
  11. Use your heat tool above and below the pasted card stock to dry and bubble the paste.  The areas you focus the heat on will bubble the most.  I chose to add a little more texture to the leaves than the acorns.  Be careful not to get too close to the glitter, as you can scorch it, changing the colors.
  12. Trim the ivory card stock close to the leaves image.
  13. Distress the card stock with the Distress Ink and Blending Tool.
  14. Cut brown card stock about 1/2" larger than the ivory card stock in each direction and adhere the leaves image onto it.
  15. Cut rust paper to 4 3/8" x 5 1/4" and adhere the leaves image to it, leaving room for the raffia.
  16. Tie the raffia around the rust card stock.
  17. Adhere the rust card stock to the background.

Now that I have shown you my card, please go look at the rest of the Stampendous Team that are posting with paste today:

Today, I am participating in the Chameleon Hop, the Stampendous Christmas in July Theme AND Dreamweaver Thursday:

Materials:

Scotch® Removable Tape by 3M®

"X" Adhesive by Xyron®
Chameleon™ Markers (Grass Green)

  2. Cut green card stock to 4 3/4" by 6" and adhere to the front of the card.
  3. Use removable tape to adhere the French Horn Stencil face up on top of a piece of multi media paper.  Make sure to put the initial strip of tape all the way across the top of the stencil, creating a hinge.
  4. Use the palette knife to place a strip of Gold Embossing Paste across the bottom edge of the paste spreader.  Make sure you have a long enough strip of paste to cover the entirety of the image from side to side.
  5. Place the bottom edge of the paste spreader directly on the top edge of the stencil with the paste facing you.
  6. Pull the paste spreader towards you across the stencil.  (Think of a squeegee).  The embossing paste should completely fill all the wells in the stencil.

  8. Lift the stencil from a bottom corner, like a door and then remove it entirely from the area.
  9. Clean and thoroughly dry the stencil.
  10. Repeat steps 3-9, but use the Translucent Embossing Paste.  Focus only on the ribbon in the image, so you can cut the paper smaller, use less paste, and start the "pull" just above the bow.
  11. While the Translucent Paste is still wet, generously cover with Red Micro Glitter and let the glitter stay in place.
  12. When the Translucent Paste is completely dry, brush off the excess glitter with a stencil brush and cut around the ribbon and bow with a craft knife.
  13. Use the Chameleon Pen in Grass Green to color the holly leaves directly on the dry gold paste.
  14. Stamp the music image on ivory card stock and rip in half.
  15. Distress the edge of the music sheets with the Distress Blender and Ink.
  16. Run Sticky Panels around the edges of a rectangle about 1/4" inside the green card stock.
  17. Place music sheets on the Sticky Panels, adhering the inside of the sheets with another adhesive.
  18. Fill in the additional Sticky Panel edges with Mica Fragments.
  19. Use the Versa Marker to cover any additional areas that you would like gilded.
  20. Cover the Sticky Panel and Versa Marker areas with Aged Gold Embossing Powder and shake off the excess.
  21. Heat with the Embossing Tool to melt the powder.
  22. Trim closely to the French Horn image and distress with Distress Tool and Ink.
  23. Cut red card stock about 1/2" larger than the horn image on both sides.
  24. Mount the French Horn to the red card stock.
  25. Run the cut out ribbon image through the Xyron "X" machine and adhere directly to the corresponding places on the French Horn image.
  26. Use the foam tape to adhere the horn image onto the background.
Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope to see you tomorrow for more Stampendous and Chameleon Fun!

Go Climb a Tree

This week, the Stampendous Theme is "Go Climb a Tree".  For my post, I am actually doing a repost of a very simple card made with one of my favorite stencils--Tree Line LG745.  I wanted to post it again to let you know that metal is really so easy.  This card took me about 5 minutes to make.

MATERIALS:
Dreamweaver Tree Line Stencil LG 745
Mercart USA Copper Coated Aluminum
Stamping Details Rubber Embossing Mat
Die Cut Machine (I used the Cuttlebug)
Alcohol Inks (Tim Holtz Butterscotch, Espresso, Terra Cotta and Pesto)
Alcohol Ink Applicator
Sanding Block
Cardstock
Twine

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Run the stencil and metal through the machine.  With the Cuttlebug, the "sandwich" looks like this: A Plate, Stencil face up, metal--copper side up, rubber mat, and 2 "B" Plates.  In this case, I am debossing, or pushing the metal into the holes in the stencil.
2)  With the stencil still attached, use the alcohol ink applicator to apply alcohol inks to the whole thing.  You are just applying a very LIGHT coat to mottle the copper color and add more interest.  If you apply too much, you will remove the copper that is already there.
3)  With the stencil still attached, sand lightly to remove the color on the raised sections.  Feel free to leave a little copper, like I did in the trees.
4)  Remove the stencil and assemble the card.

I hope you liked this five minute CAS card.  Check out the rest of the bloggers posting today.

By The Sea

STM_MayArtsBanner2
We’ve got lots going on this week to keep your Summer Vacation hopping with inspiration. In one event we’re hopping all week with one of our very favorite craft partners. May Arts ribbon is an extremely generous sponsor for us here at Stampendous and our Design Team is absolutely in love with their gorgeous ribbons, cords, strings and specialty items. You’ll find loads of beautiful May Arts on all our samples.
Here is my project, which also features this week's Stampendous theme, "By the Sea":
I used one of my all time favorite stencils here, the Mermaid Stamp.  I stamped it on the Multi Media White Paper with Memento in Tuxedo Black.   I knew I was planning on using the Spellbinders Ovals One Bezel, but I didn't have the corresponding dies, so I traced the bezel and then hand cut out the image.  I made sure that I trimmed the image so that we could still see the little seahorse.  I colored the image with my Prismacolor Colored Pencils.  I glued the image down to the bezels and then glued Glass Glitter in Bronze around the edges.  When it dried, I covered the whole image in a thick layer of Glastique, from Globecraft Memories.  It took a long time to dry, so I wasn't able to add the second layer, but I will soon because it could really use it.   The image reminded me of a cameo.   As a nod to the cameos worn on a ribbon choker several years ago, I decided that a choker length and some ribbon was in order.  Of course, I used the beautiful May Arts ribbons.

All week you’ve got a chance to check out our Design Team Inspiration as well as the Ribbonistas over at the May Arts Blog.  Be sure to comment and tell us where you’re from, because our Australian Distributor The Stencil Specialists are sponsoring a prize for one friend “down under” to win a Stampendous Stamp, a Dreamweaver Stencil and a surprise goodie from their terrific stock of Stampendous merchandise!
There are Stampendous prize packages up for grabs. THREE US commenters  will receive a prize of their choice in any one roll of ribbon from May Arts and a $20 reward card. Tell us what state you live in when you comment. Stampendous Official Rules.
Be sure to stop by the May Arts blog each day, because they are having a prize also! How’s that for an amazing week of prizes!

Dreamweaver By The Sea

This is also Dreamweaver Thursday and the Stampendous theme for the week is "By the Sea".  I followed all the guidelines with my post for today:

I have posted this once before, but it is one of my favorite and features one of my go-to May Arts ribbons, the 1.5 inch White Net Ribbon.  I used the Jellyfish Stencil through my Cuttlebug with my Stamping Details Rubber Embossing Mat.  The material I embossed was medium blue coated aluminum.  I placed the stencil face down on the A Plate and covered it with the metal, face down, the embossing mat and the two B Plates.  I did the same with the LM 248 Happy Birthday Stencil, except that I placed both the stencil and the metal face up.  In this way, I "debossed" it, sending the metal into the wells of the stencil. You should LEAVE the stencil behind the sentiment until you are done sanding. After the metal was embossed, I colored the backgrounds a little with Color Solutions in Aquarius, Iceberg and Blue Velvet.  I used these colors on the Happy Birthday wish as well.  Then, I lightly sanded the jellyfish and fully sanded the outside of the letters to reveal the silver.  (After this step, you should remove the stencil.)

After sanding, I tapped some of the White Pearl Color Solutions over the top of the jellyfish.

Of course, that gorgeous webbing fit right in with the stencil and the undersea theme.
